Scoutbook Member ID Mergers

So I’m not sure if this is a Scoutbook or my.scouting.org issue, however the announcement came out yesterday that we could merge our member ID’s in my.scouting.org (something I took advantage of, as being in the military I have 6).

Well… it seems something happened with that. I now have access to the Rosters of units I was previously in, and can also unapprove advancements, purchase orders, etc, all in Scoutbook. i guess I can’t say that for sure - the buttons appear but I haven’t clicked them to verify as I didn’t want to mess up their stuff. I am not and have not been registered members of those units for some time, and I shouldn’t have access to them but yet I do, and without requesting or the unit approving my access.

We have seen some odd things in this early adopter period - what is the Member ID? And what Units/Positions SHOULD there be?

@MichaelWatrous so this is not Crew2 and TG2?

So I should have Crew 2 and Troop 2, but should not have Pack 321 and Pack 122.

yeah i see some things - it is being looked at

@MichaelWatrous when you go to my.scouting > click Menu top Left > then unit selector - do you see those units there also?

@MichaelWatrous are you seeing the same today? Wondering if 24 hours settled it

Yep! Everything looks good now

Thanks!

I did notice this brielfy over the weekend - it showed a unit I had not been registered in since 2004 in Scoutbook Plus. This seemed to auto-resolve itself by this morning, as that unit no longer appears in the dropdown list of personas.

I have seen related issues post-merge where the my.scouting roster doesn’t match scoutbook plus roster. One example involving Cross-Council active registrations: My.Scouting profile and rosters are updated for the surviving member ID 132413335, but Scoutbook Plus shows the secondary, now deactivated, ID 140141252 as “Needs to Register”. The primary council registration unit roster shows the secondary council ID in SB+ as well. The merge was run 4pm on Friday. The connected adult (parent) run through the merge shortly before shows the surviving number 12364803 on both platforms. (deactivated parent ID connected to the youth’s secondary ID is 140279071)

It may be that this is an issue where we need to reach out to one or both of the affected council registrars. It almost appears as if each platform chose a different surviving member ID for the youth.

I just merged ID’s yesterday, I can log into my.scouting and legacy scoutbook, but scoutbook plus now gives me the following error: “NO Scoutbook Plus ACCESS It looks like you don’t have the right Scouting role to access Scoutbook Plus.Only Youth, Parents, Key 3, Key 3 delegate & Unit Advancement Chair roles have access to Scoutbook Plus.”

It typically takes some time to propagate to all of the systems. That said, SB+ tends to rely on cached data a lot, so you might benefit from clearing cache or clearing cached data just for the scouting.org sites to see if that clears things up for SB+. If not, I’d wait until tomorrow and see how things are faring. I’ve heard anything from 1-2 days on how long it takes to make it through the systems.

What is strange is that some personas, such as committee member or unit scouter reserve, when viewing the roster in SB+, i.e., the short-form roster showing first name and last initial, see the surviving member ID from my.scouting. Same with the MBC dashboard. But higher permissions in SB+ within the same unit - where the roster shows the full first name and last name - it doesn’t show the surviving ID, only shows the discarded ID as expired and “needs to renew”. We’re a week on since the merge and it’s still kaboodled.

We have identified multiple issues with Member ID merge. At this point I do not recommend merging any IDs.

I am having issues with this as well - I was registered in one council for my son from 2008 to 2019 - he has eagled and is now an adult and not registered in scouting. (ID121169205). I have registered now with another council for my grandson, and did his as well as my application. I had 2 member IDs - 1 for each council - 142345980 and 122185070. It appears I was able to merge those and all of my training records etc carried over, but I now have my Eagled (aged out) scout tied to my ID but not my grandson. Grandsons ID is 142417637. Nothing I do seems to fix it - the pack committee chair sees me connected to him, but I do not.

@MichelleHolcomb - no dropdown in the upper right for your youth connection

@MichelleHolcomb the non-parent relationships are less clear. In SB+ if you go to top right and drop down profile menu do you see the scout as an option to select? A non-parent has less access unless you are also the legal guardian, if you are the legal guardian council would need to turn on a “Guardian” flag for you.

I wish I saw this before yesterday, my local council said to merge my ID, now I have no scoutbook plus access at all.

Same issue here, merged IDs yesterday and can’t login to Scoutbook Plus. Am still able to login to my.scouting, though. Current member ID I need access for is 141064704. Can someone please help?
