Scoutbook Parent Sign Off Advancements

Wondering what everyone does about parents being able to sign off on advancements in Scoutbook. Do you turn it off in Scoutbook? Can you just turn off for individual Dens?

Parents will always have full control of their Scouts. Units cannot turn this off

Parents who are leaders in the unit need to be educated that unless their role in the unit is to approve advancement, they should not do so.

During COVID, the BSA has given parents the authority to approve advancement for Cub Scouts. This capability is built into Scoutbook and will remain until the BSA revokes this authority.

You cannot turn it off. Parents always have full parental control. On top of that, the COVID FAQ gives Cub Scout parents approval authority.

Q: May parents sign off on Webelos and Arrow of Light requirements?

Yes. During this pandemic period, parents and other adults in the Cub Scout’s family may sign off on Webelos and Arrow of Light requirements. We strongly encourage that parents use the Scouting App or Scoutbook to record completion of their child’s requirements. We will continue to monitor the situation and communicate when this temporary measure expires and there is a return to the standard rules for Cub Scout advancement.

While parents can mark an item completed, it is still the leader’s responsibility to confirm the details and mark that item approved.
