Scoutbook Plus Import File Feature .txt format only

We recently came from summer camp. I’m the advancement chair for the unit and I was trying to upload the “Requirements Completed” file that we get from Tentaroo. I tried uploading the .csv file, as it used to be in Scoutbook Legacy, but I received an error message indicating that I needed a .txt file and that I needed to contact my provider to request it. I called the camp and they that said those in Tentaroo were the only formats (.csv; .pdf; xls). Then I called my local council and they tried to help by converting the file from .csv to .txt but even then I kept on getting error messages, whether was it had to many characters or not formatted in the correct order or columns required by Scoutbook Plus. Has anyone experienced this? I ended giving up and inputing the advancements manually, but I’m curious if it’s just me. Thanks!

@VirginiaPerez you are not following the correct process - you have to use Firefox or Chrome - and have the Scoutbook Feature Assitant Extension installed. Then you go to Legacy Scoutbook through SB+ and you will see an upload there. - Unit Import Summer Camp Merit Badge Records into Scoutbook - Scoutbook Knowledge Base

Thank you! I will try it and see how it goes, then I’ll share with my council.

I also just came from Summer camp and am trying to figure out how to import the merit badges from black pug. I installed the Scoutbook Feature Assistant Extension but it says that it has been discontinued because it doesn’t work with Scoutbook plus. I tried going into Legacy Scoutbook and don’t see anyway to upload anything there. Any help and direction would be appreciated.

Thank you

@JanuaryMyers you click the Legacy SB link in SB+ > go to Unit Page > do you not see the Import option there?

I do now, it wasn’t there earlier, maybe I didn’t wait long enough after downloading the extension for it to pop up. Second questions is I have to choose a file to import and camp didn’t give us information on where to go to get the black pug file just that they would put everything into black pug. Any thoughts on how to access the file from camp or do they need to provide us with more direction on that end?

Hi All,

I am not seeing any menu options except send message.

What am I doing wrong.

@JanuaryMyers Your council has to provide the file from Blackpug I believe - talk to them.

@JohnSagami you click the Legacy SB link in SB+ > go to Unit Page > do you not see the Import option there - you have to be running the Extension and it cannot be an incognito window

@JanuaryMyers - there should be the download in the report section of the camp site once you log in and instructions

Yes.

shut down chrome twice and no button.

I went into the extention and taggles setteing off, shut down chrome, relaunched chrome, toggled the extention on, shut down chrome, re-launched chrome, logged into SB Legacy and I see import and send messages now.

Not sure if what I did fixed it, I thought it would trigger an extention update because i saw an earlier post refer to an update.

Thanks.

You might now want to erase the extension and re-download

@JanuaryMyers - if it is tentaroo here are those instructions

Hopefully Tentaroo and Blackpug will update their export system to be compatible with the new SB+ TXT based import, I would imagine eventually this SB Legacy work around will go away.

Perhaps we should all encourage our Councils to encourage whichever system they work with to update to the new SB+ import system.

If you don’t see the import option in Legacy SB and you have the extension installed, try clicking the reload icon in the top right portion of the Legacy SB window (the two arrows pointing in a circle). This caused the import menu to show up for me. Just went through this struggle yesterday. Good luck.

yeah a cache might be blocking the extension.

@AaronStorey

If I remember correctly, the TXT import is for final completions only. There is an item in the backlog for Scoutbook Plus to be able to import the csv from Blackpug.

Watch Scoutbook - Scoutbook Plus Change Log - Scouting Forums for an announcement of a fix.

yes the TXT import is the replacement for the very old Internet Advancement platform that was retired.
