I am trying to use the text function in Scoutbook (Legacy) and I am testing on myself. I am setup to receive texts, but it is emailing me, rather than texting. Is there a way to fix this?
My BSA ID number is: 13709850
Thanks,

Thanks,
Many cell carriers are ending their SMS support - so that feature is kind of up in the air currently.
I am able to receive texts from every other organization I am part of.
Also, it was just announced that National will start texting parents about the registration renewals. Isn’t all the supposed to work together?
I am trying to find the best ways to communicate to my unit.
Thanks,
Scoutbook uses email to SMS for sending texts. Many carriers including AT&T have dropped or are dropping this service. So far Scouting America has not developed a replacement solution.
They are different systems.
We have suggested to the developers that they consider using the same process, but there is no word on whether that is feasible or not.

Donovan - I’m using AT&T and have noticed recently other “missing” text messages, mostly group texts from iPhone users using iOS less than iOS 18. I’ve done all the recommended fixes according to GROK for my Android. I do get an e-mail when I send a text from Scoutbook, but wish BSA could remedy this.
ATT is killing that feature off
Like @DonovanMcNeil said, AT&T is killing the email to text gateway off. This approach to texting has always been less robust than a real server to text gateway (using a service with direct application programming interface or a cell modem).
I think having texting would still be good, but national would have to adopt the more robust, but more costly, API or cell modem approach. To recommend them to do so, you’ll have to work with your council to enter a member care ticket requesting a replacement for text messaging via the old technology. This will likely cost money and I’d guess both approaches will scale with use. So, sending out a million texts even at a low cost per text may be costly.
Too bad… Google fortunately has figured out how to continue to allow us to pair our phones to our computers so I can text using my computer…. which is so much easier than using that tiny virtual keyboard on the phone ….
