Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Says I don’t have permissions. I could perviously do this (a couple of weeks ago) It’s a pretty pointless endeavor to search for counselors if you can’t contact them. Is this a Scoutbook thing or a me thing? Any ideas on how to get this corrected?
Ok. What do you see when you look at your permissions on the roster in SB+? Not all scouters have the same access, so the unit Key 3 have to set the permissions for each scouter. I don’t know if you’ve seen this already or not, but it explains in some detail which registered and functional positions have which default permissions, and can be assigned which additional permissions:
A major focus of the migration to Scoutbook Plus is to have positions mirror the positions shown in My.Scouting to ensure positions were reflected accurately in both platforms. The main purpose it to honor the guidance of our charter organizations and the positions they approve. Therefore, Scoutbook Plus does not use Legacy Scoutbook positions. Registered positions are used to provide base permissions. Some additional permissions can be added by the unit, however, there are restrictions on what can be given. See the updated Scoutbook_Permissions.pdf and the Scoutbook Plus permissions video for more details.
Which position do you have selected in the upper right drop-down menu? That plays a role in what access you have.
Understood. But as I said in the other thread, the back end programming in SB+ should be smart enough to know what position I’m acting under (and apply the highest level of permissions one has access to). The impetus shouldn’t be on the user to change what role they are acting under. All roles in Sb+ should be consolidated for the best user experience.
This is what I’m seeing. You cannot see the required information to contact the MB Counselor. If you click “Actions” on the right to try and assign them, it say I don’t have the permission to bulk add counselors.
It would be great if it worked that way, but it doesn’t. You may have noticed there are a lot of posts where changing from parent, say, to Scoutmaster is all that was needed. I’d hope this is an improvement that could be implemented, but until then, the question will almost always be asked.
Thanks for the reply, Matt, but the issue is this. 90%+ of scouting volunteers are also parents of their kids. Not thinking about this reality on the front side and how it’s implemented on the backside is a bit of an oversight.
If you want to improve participation in scouting, then you should make it as easy as you can for those that volunteer to help the organization, even it it means more work.
Another thing I’ve run into is you (I) cannot remove a Merit Badge Counselor from my scout. Not that this is the reason we need to switch counselors on a MB, but this is an action that everyone should have in SB+ (esp parents) because of Youth protection issues. I can see the restrictions on adding a counselor, but removing one is something different.
Yes, and when I click that trash can, it says two things. 1). User is not authorized to access this API. and 2). Your position and related permissions do not allow you to perform this action.
Which is why I said, anyone should be allowed to remove a MBC regardless of status.
@LonnieShull in my testing from a parent account it works fine - for you your relationships are messed up and council registrar needs to clean it up - you are Son of your own scout. That is probably the issue.
