I have read all of the issues with merit badges not populating correctly and thus messing up Star & Life advancement. While one of my scouts is being affected by this (ID# 134692627), something else is going as well. It will not let me approve his BOR because it must happen on or after completion of the scout’s requirements. All of his merit badges (even the Eagle one incorrectly plugged in as “optional” badges) were completed before the BOR on Feb. 10, 2025. After looking more at his profile, the only thing that stands out is that on the right side of the screen where it shows who/when it was approved, it now shows that I marked it as approved and completed on Sept. 3, 2025….which is definitely not the case. Yesterday when I checked it shows that his merit badges were completed on Aug. 10, 2025. So it’s changed even the past day. Approval date aside, the completion date of Sept. 3 is making it not possible to approve a BOR on Feb. 10, 2025. Are there any fixes for this? I know a lot of issues are being worked on, but this scout is close to Eagle. Thanks, Anthony D.
@AnthonyDeMoon there are too many dates not connected here to understand. so the 9/3 date is on a MB? This is for Life?
If it is a Merit badge - that is known and is being worked on for the fix
9/3 date is the date that is shows I approved his merit badges and marked them as completed in Req. 3. But I did not mark them approved and completed on 9/3. Yesterday it said I marked it completed on Aug 10. So it has changed itself in the last 24 hours. If you look at his MB’s listed under Life it shows that the completed date for the final MB required was 2/25 by the Merit Badge icon. But in that same Req. 3 area, on the right side by approval, Scoutbook Plus is saying this requirement wasn’t completed until 9/3, which is a completely random date. So I think there are two bugs going on. One is the Eagle merit badges automatically populating Req.3 which has been widely discussed. But it looks like there is a bug with the approval/completed check area that Advancment Chairs/Scoutmasters click. Because it is showing I marked this as approved & completed on Sept. 3, it won’t allow me to check that his Board of Review was completed on Feb. 10.
Hello all, is this bug fixed.
No it is still showing up with my scout’s file. The issue with my scout is that I cannot “undo” the merit badge approval. Right now it is automatically saying that I approved and he completed the merit badges on August 10, and if you hover over that date on the right hand approval side, it says it was completed on Sept. 3, 2025. Neither of these dates are correct. I went in and approved it just now with a Sept. 3 date and tried to unapprove so I could approve it for the actual date of Feb. 10, 2025 and it still says it can’t be done because the BOR can’t be done before the not-real completion date of Sept. 3.
How can I change the approval/completion date for Req. 3?
@AnthonyDeMoon - this was in the change log:
Star/Life Rank
- An issue that prevented Star and Life from being marked complete due to Requirement 3 has been partially fixed. Requirement 3 is now recalculated each time Star or Life is accessed until the rank is marked Complete. If Star or Life is showing an incorrect completion date for Requirement 3 and the rank is complete, remove the rank completion date. Requirement 3 will recalculate with the correct date then the rank can be completed again.
Note: Requirement 3 will NOT show the correct completion if ALL completed Merit Badges are Eagle Required. In this case, if Star/Life are already completed or the system will not allow you to enter the correct Board of Review date, remove the completion date from the rank, complete and approve non-Eagle required Merit Badge with an earlier date than one of the Eagle required Merit Badges. Enter the Board of Review date for the rank date then remove approval and the completion date from the non-Eagle required Merit Badge. This allows the Rank to be completed with the correct date.
- Thank you! I got his Life rank approved about an hour ago by putting that he earned it Sept. 3, 2025. In reality, he earned Life rank on Feb. 10, 2025, which is important because he’s close to completing Eagle. Thanks again.
I looked at the Scout’s merit badges. He is being affected by the issue where he has earned 11 Eagle Required Merit Badges prior to Life being marked complete.
You should be able to enter the correct BOR date if you do the following:
- Remove the completion date from Life. You may need to also remove the date from one requirement.
- Remove approval (and awarded if necessary) from Personal Fitness, Cooking, Camping, Citizenship in the Nation and Environmental Science.
At that point, Requirement 3 should have a completion date of 2/4/25 allowing you to enter the correct BOR date for Life.
After Life is marked Approved, restore approval to the Merit Badges changed in #2 above.
Ok so I went in and made it so those 5 merit badges were no longer completed. But it is still not allowing me to approve his BOR because it occurs before the completion of some req’s. The MB’s pull up correctly as you said they would with the last one being completed on Feb. 4, 2025 BUT if you look at the right side of the Req. 3 box, it is still showing that I marked this completed 8/10/25. If you hover over that area it shows that I marked this approved on 2/4/25, which is correct. But the completed part is still marked as 8/10/25 and I can’t edit that part (nor were any of the badges completed anywhere near that date).
I have sent you a private message so you can provide more details that we don’t want in the public forum. Click on the blue circle with white A when you see the green envelope on it.
The developers updated the Scout’s Life rank. Please check and go ahead and restore any MBs that should be complete that are not.
Thank you so much! Please pass my thanks on to everyone who helped. I know it was a lot of back and forth and I appreciate you fixing this for us.
I want to thank you for sticking with it. Every time a bug is found, back and forth data is given, the system improves.
