Yes this was a National decision - as 99% of XOs are just a signature on paper. And they are not Direct-Contact leaders and no requirement for Youth Protection.
So, What does that role mean exactly? If not a requirement for youth protection why have the position listed? When I go to the Permission Manager section and assign roles, it will not let proceed until I add an Exec Officer, but yet the only options I have are for currently registered leaders (my old Exec Off was on the roster). The questions are simple really, what does the Exec Officer do? Who should I select to fill that roles based upon expected performance (Committee Member? ASM?) What is the job and why do I need it filled to enter other roles? Do they have permissions like the Key 3?
The XO is part of the Charter Process. The role is better discussed with Council. These forums are for Technology questions - not policy.
I understand, but the central idea is that the new system will not allow you to enter anyone who has a different role (CM, CC, ASM, etc) and you are required to enter an XO before you can update other positions. So, If everyone on my roster is a CC, CM, ASM, SM….how do I make changes to the assigned positions? Are you saying that I have to remove someone as a Committee Member, assign them as the XO, into a job with little or no definition? I am suggesting that maybe we need top re-look why that block MUST be filled in order to assign other positions. NOT a policy question.
@MarkCorbett- the institutional head or XO is the person in leadership role of the charter org.
Key3 can move already approved registered positions - if you need to move a Committee member to an ASM position it can be done.
NOW - SB+ forces you to have the minimum positions filled - and XO would be one of those. Just like it would fail if you did not have a chair. So if XO is blank in SB+ Position Assignee it would fail and means no one is assigned. Before I was saying XO is not in the Roster itself as it was before, but XO Should be listed in the Assignee area. If that is your situation I would talk to council on getting it resolved.
The Executive Officer (IH) has always been a required position and has been needed every year to renew your unit. If you do not have a IH on your My.Scouting roster, chances are their registration has expired. Contact your council for next steps.
@MarkCorbett- i know that the permission change did not remove anyone from any position or role in our roster. There would be some other reason for the drop that sadly coincided with the change.
