Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I have a scout working on a merit badge. He was previously assigned a merit badge counselor but has now selected a new counselor.
Before I can add the new counselor I need to remove or delete his connection to the existing counselor. Give this scout is only associated with this counselor for that one badge, historically I would go into Scoutbook “Connections” for that scout and select that counselor and uncheck the box for that merit badge and then “Delete Connection”. I’m no longer seeing that option for this counselor. I only see the “Update” and “Cancel” options and if I pick “Update” then it says I have to keep at least 1 merit badge associated with that scout and counselor.
How do I get this connection removed so I can assign the scout a new counselor.
@Chip_Linthicum - I just checked one of my scouts by going to the roster in scoutbook, going to the scout then connections clicking on the MBC and I see this:
What relationship(s) does that Scout have with that adult? Is that adult something else in the Relationship field? Can you uncheck the MBC relationship and the MB box and update?
Someone else had modified the ‘connections’ permissions for this merit badge oounselor, and removed his permissions for that scout. So that must have been preventing my ability to modify and remove him as the counselor for this scout.
I went into the Troop Roster - Connections and then restored View Profile and View Advancement rights for this counselor (also an adult leader in our Troop) with the problematic scout. I then was able to go back to the connections for this scout and remove this leader as an MBC.
Looks like a corner case (bug/feature) in the software that was preventing me from being able to disconnect and remove the connection between this scout and the counselor originally.
