I have leader who is not supposed to be a den leader, was added to a den a few years ago and now i cannot remove them. It says “Error Invalid userid - provide valid userid”

Try going into legacy Scoutbook (https://scoutbook.scouting.org), navigating to your roster page, selecting the leader, selecting the positions page then the den leader position and adding an end date.
In addition, you might want to check that individual’s connections to all of your scouts in Connection Manager and make sure that they are removed as appropriate.
Easiest way to do that is use the Clean Old Connections button on the unit roster page in legacy Scoutbook.

what does clean old connections actually do?
It breaks connections between adults no longer associated with the unit and Scouts.
