Who Has Permission to Assign Merit Badge Counselors Now?

I am the Unit Advancement Coordinator and an Assistant Scoutmaster for my troop, and following this weekend’s migration, I no longer have permission to assign merit badge counselors. I can see the MBCs, and when I try to assign a MBC to a Scout, I get the following error, “Your position and related permissions do not allow you to perform this action”. I have reviewed the Permissions Guide several times and do not see an option for MBC Assignment. There is only a MBC List option, and I already have that permission. Under the migrated system, who has permission to assign MBCs to a Scout in a troop? Are the Key 3 the only people who now have the permission to assign MBCs? If so, I respectfully request that the developers consider providing a MBC Assignment option for Unit Advancement Chairs and/or ASMs. The unit’s Key 3 could determine which ASMs should be granted the ability to assign MBCs, as they now determine which ASMs have the ability to Approve/Edit/Record.

@BryanDierlam I assume you are talking about T500G?

There you are only ASM - you are not UAC - might be a fake one from Legacy, but it is not real. You do not have MBC List for T500G. Key3 would need to give that permission to you if they want to.

Mr. McNeil: My name is Christina Muedeking, and I didn’t realize that I had mistakenly posted my question from my husband Bryan Dierlam’s Scoutbook account until after it had been posted. You are correct that Bryan is not the UAC for T500G. I am the UAC and an ASM for both T500B and T500G. Is there any consideration being given to creating a MBC Assignment permission that the Key 3 can grant to UACs and ASMs? Thank you.

I am having the same problem. I am an Assistant Scoutmaster in our troop.

I previously could do this. I think the problem is that SB+ automatically defaulting away from some of the basic duties that folks “automatically” had. I get giving more control to the Scoutmaster and Key 3, but it’s going to be a lot of work for them to go back in and set up permissions manually for all of their volunteers.

MBC assignment is a SM task unless delegated. So, there really isn’t a way to know who they are delegating it to unless they do it.

I believe the SB+ Permissions Manager > Advancement > MBC List - gives the ability to manage MBCs for scouts

@LonnieShull the real issue is this - what You did as ASM for a unit is not universal - so a system to allow unit specific decision making had to be created.

Hi Matt,

Again, I understand. I just worry about adding additional tasks to folks who already give so much of their time to scouting. Even if the tasks are small, they do add up.

I am a SM and have all of the correct permissions in SB. When I try to assign a MB counselor, I click assign, the dark blue box has a brief circle swirl, and nothing happens. The MB counselor is not assigned and the screen does not change.

@KENDRADIMICHELE and this is for 390G?

Yes, it is. Thank you!

@KENDRADIMICHELE can you give me a specific Scout (Member # - no name) and merit badge. and the exact steps you are taking? First try your issue could not be reproduced.

@KENDRADIMICHELE and have you tried an Incognito window?

Yes, tried incognito window with same results. Scout is 142220076, MB if First Aid, and MB Counselor is Member # 8034577.

@KENDRADIMICHELE I see that MBC connected as MBC for First aid

I do not. It only shows me that a counselor needs to be assigned

@KENDRADIMICHELE this seems to be some issue with that individual scout

Ok, is there a way that I can fix it, or do we hope it resolves? Thank you for looking at it!

The developers are looking into it
