Unable to assign Merit Badge Counselor

I have an ASM in my unit who is receiving and error when using the new SB+ features to add a MBC to a Scout.

The error reads:

User is not authorized to access this API

Your Positions(s) and related permissions do not allow you to perform this action

The Adult receiving the error is member ID: 141033875

The user is an Asst Scoutmaster, and has been granted the Advancement [Edit and MBC Search] permissions for the Troop Scoutbook Plus Merit Badge Counselor Guide - Scoutbook Knowledge Base

Any help is appreciated

@SiennaScoutmaster - when in permission manager and you click on View Permission they have that permission listed ?

Here is what I see for the user when in permission manager and clicking on View Permission

This is what is showing for the user in the Advancement section of permission manager

@SiennaScoutmaster - ok.. thanks. It would be easier to deal directly with the ASM, but several things to work.. they are using the correct dropdown in the upper right on scoutbook plus ? Have they tried an incognito session ?

Sounds great. I will have them chime in here.

@Stephen_Hornak I am using the correct dropdown in the upper right. I’m not sure how to do an incognito session however.

@Stephen_Hornak I just used an incognito sessions and I have the same error messages.

Stephen, I am experiencing the exact same issue.

@LoganPool @KathrynCarlin - before i responded I wanted to make sure i as Committee Chair could add an mbc and i was able to.
I can try a screen share with both of you one at a time if you want you can email me at sjhjr@comcast.net

@KathrynCarlin - let us know the point where you do have success adding an MBC. If the error gets passed to the dev team watch the change log for the fix.

Myself (assistant Adv. Chair) and our Unit Advancement Chair also are no longer able to assign MBC despite all of our permissions appearing to be the same as they were before this weekends Legacy migration. I would like to know which positions are now capable of this and if it is only the Key 3 can delegates be given the permission?

I also am no longer able to assign merit badge counselors after the migration to scoutbook plus. I was able to make the assignments in scoutbook legacy before the migration. Can you let us know if this is a bug or which which spcific positions and permissions a person needs in order to do this? I am our troops “merit badge liaison” (and have been for several years) so I need to make sure I am categorized correctly. BTW, I really like the new interface for this action, so I am looking forward to it working!

I should clarify from my comment above that I am experiencing the same two errors mentioned by others: “you do not have access to the API” and “your positions and related permissions to not allow you to perform this action”. Thanks.

@Stephen_Hornak the SM and I did some troubleshooting, and it appears the access level I needed is Key 3 Delegate in order to assign a MBC to a Scout.

When assigning Unit Support Permission … this issue remained

When granting Key 3 Delegate, this issue went away.

i confirm key3 can add mbc but the leader who was permitted to edit advancement could not assign mbc,

from the guide to advancement:
The Scout and the merit badge counselor.
Although it is the unit leader’s responsibility to see that at least one merit badge counselor is identified from those approved and available

In asserting that this is a bug, I’m relying on the following document provided in the release notes for the MBC feature.

Assigning / Connecting a Merit Badge Counselor to a Scout for a Badge

Before a merit badge counselor can work with a youth on a merit badge in Scoutbook Plus, they need to be assigned to the Scout. MBCs can assign themselves to the Scout if you give them the Scout’s full name (as registered) and Member ID. Unit leaders with Edit and MBC Search rights can also assign a merit badge counselor to a Scout to work on a badge by clicking on the Scout on the Roster page, then clicking on the badge in the Scout’s Merit Badges section.

(Unit key 3 members and their delegates can check the Permissions Manager page in SB+ to adjust rights/positions in SB+)

OK MBC - AN ASM that is ASSIGNED to a patrol can assign an MBC
A User with Edit or Approve Advancement can assign an MBC

At this point that does NOT mean they can search for MBC. The MBC Search permission is needed for that

I am still trying to sort this out and understand it.
