Adding Red Cross Lifeguard Cert to a youth profile

“BSA Lifeguard Instructors can no longer certify BSA Lifeguards as of 12/31/2024.” That is one reason why it can’t be awarded in SB. A poor copy that one cannot read is not a certification that will pass NCAP assessments.

Yes, I know. I want to be able to ask Scoutly for a list of lifeguards who have YPT in my district so I can arrange a beachfront trip. That would make my volunteer job easier.

But for some reason, we can’t have nice things. Since none of the suggestions or workflows that we explore here are ever considered by the Scoutbook team, its probably functionality that we will have to put into the unauthorized plugin or the third-party products that already do this.

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit - training is not in scoutbook and has not been firor some time. It is my.scouting.org and that team only works via councils. Additionally scoutbook is a unit tool not council or district

I get what you’re saying. Unfortunately, we can’t help you here Since we only have contacts with the scoutbook development team, and scoutbook does not store training data. You’ll need to convince your council staff to make a request to national to add it to my.scouting and also the search capability.

If training is indeed gone from Scoutbook, it would be wonderful if we could get WOOD BADGE out of our Troop Recognition Report.

We have three leaders with WOOD BADGE but only one shows up in the report, and because they are not youth, there is no way to mark it as awarded so that it goes away. It just stays on every. single. report. For I think three years now. The report unhelpfully says "(Training is not an “Award.” All Training is shown within the date range regardless of other options. Only Wood Badge is shown for adults)."

I don’t know which path put this on the recognition report without a way to ever take it off, but I wish training would indeed go away so this rock in my shoe would go away too.

@JamesReifsnyder-Smit

Many units want to recognize their leaders for Wood Badge. It only appears if the completion of W90 is within the date range for the report. Most Troops the recognition report is only run with dates since the last court of honor.

I tested several options and the only way to get Wood Badge to appear is if the completion date was within the date range specified.

Good point, Ed. Many units do want to recognize Wood Badge recipients, but this report is unreliable therefore useless. The scouter who got Wood Badge in 2012 is on there, but we had two Scouters who got it before him and three Scouters who got it since and they never made it to the report.

Many more units do not use completion dates for the report, so they don’t miss anything that was not marked awarded. They appear until they are marked awarded. This is really nice for us advancement coordinators who have three Courts of Honor a year who keep a tidy ship and don’t have the time to enter guardrail dates to get rid of one stupid line that we can just cluck our tongues at.

Unlike EVERY OTHER ITEM on this report, we can not mark the adult training as awarded no matter how many times we sing the Gilwell song. Council doesn’t want to fix it, Scoutbook doesn’t want to fix it, so we just tolerate it as a badge of shame.

It is particularly guiling that if “training” has indeed gone away, there will probably never be any way to get this irrelevant, useless and annoying waste of toner to leave the report.

If you set the start date as the date of you last Court of Honor and turn on Include Not-Awarded Regardless of Date Range you will get everything not marked Awarded and only WB completed within the date range.
