How do I add Scout’s ARC Lifeguard certificate to his Scoutbook profile ?
I do not believe Scouting America tracks American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
Not even as an ‘other’ or an external training ?
@PeterWeinheber - that is not listed at all in training at my.scouting.org which is where training is maintained
You likely would need to advocate for adding this to the training tracking with your council professionals. The more detailed a use case you can describe for them (ideally in a format they can simply copy-and-paste to pass along to national), the more likely that the actual ask will get passed along correctly. This needs to be submitted via the council staff since the teams that support my.scouting don’t take direct bug reports/feature requests from volunteers (even the SUAC volunteers).
Charley … You’re confirming that it is known to be not possible to enter ARC Lifeguard into Scoutbook and it’s not just me ?
@PeterWeinheber - no training or anything like that is entered in scoutbook and has not been for some time.
Stephen … There is/was BSA Lifeguard, which is kinda like it
I’m just a unit ASM and Key 3 Delegate, but like Stephen, I don’t see it at my.scouting.
If you’re talking about tracking things in classic Scoutbook, there’s nearly no reason to be in classic Scoutbook anymore (unless sending emails with attachments while that’s being fixed in SB+).
@PeterWeinheber - that is still in the training manager at my.scouting.org
I’m Key 3 and I’m in Scoutbook Plus … but I understand this might be added via Training Manager in My.Scouting.
Right … but I can’t add that either. Perhaps blocked due to it being phased out?
I don’t see ARC Lifeguard in the Training Manager for youth training. Thus, my suggestion that you submit the recommendation to your council professionals who can pass it along to national as a requested feature enhancement at my.scouting for the Training Manager.
The old BSA Lifeguard was retired years ago. At the time it was retired, the ability to add it was removed from my.scouting.org.
I guess I’ll just add it to his “About me” on his profile page
This is an interesting case. It would be useful to know who is Lifeguard- or WFA-trained in order to staff events in our District. Youth are eligible, e.g. Philmont crews need WFA-trained participants but they don’t need to be adults. On the other hand, ARC is not the same as Scouting America Lifeguard Certification, so listing ARC Lifeguard would be deceptive.
Wilderness First Aid is a course that can be added to youth (or adult) profiles under training.
There is no Scouting America Lifeguard Certification and as I understand it, the ARC Lifeguard is the preferred replacement.
My experience with these certs, from summer camp staff, is they want to see the issued document. That has the issue date and expiration time/date.
Good to know, I remember my daughter needing to decide between BSA and ARC certification, and wondering why they were so different.
BSA Lifeguard Instructor Transition | Scouting America says that camps and councils get to decide, which will help their supply a lot.
The need is even greater for a way to find somebody qualified for outings; the last time I looked for a lifeguard, it was a fourth-generation photocopy of a handwritten sheet and I had to call a half-dozen people to find one that was still certified.
WFA and medics and CPR trainers are others - they’re more scarce than MBCs!
