Lake Erie Council starts Unit and Membership Renewals 11/01/2024. Under the Family/Self-Paid option information provided on the BSA and council web sites indicates the members will receive an email with a direct link to My.Scouting.org.
In Scoutbook Plus where a Scout has a parent serving as an adult leader, that parent is listed twice in the Scout’s profile. Following the links to each of the listed parent profiles reveals that the same parent has two distinct member IDs. Does that mean the leader/parent gets two renewal emails? If so, then what?
A second issue. To my knowledge few if any parents have ever logged on to My.Scouting.org. If they follow the links in their emails, will they be automatically linked to their Scout after creating an account?
I would appreciate any insights into these matters.
Well Basically here is what is going on - The parent that initially fills out an application for a Scout to Join Scouting (online or paper) is added as the Scouts Parent in AKELA (BSA Membership Database). When you log into my.scouting.org (an AKELA Platform) if you go to My Applications you can often(?) see scouts you are parent of - but it seems not all the time. I users Scoutbook login will log them into my.scouting.org as long as it is the Same BSA #. The Example of the Leader and Parent - they obviously have 2 BSA #s - so it becomes more complex.
The best Preemptive action to take is for the users to contact your local council and ask them to use the Registrar Tools to look up the children. When they look up the children, they want to check children’s “User Relationship” and make sure that children are connected to parent with Only the correct BSA member ID number that they can log into Scoutbook with. If they do that now, it should make renewal go much smoother.

Thank you for your help. This will allow me to frame my request to the Registrar. Never thought I needed to delve into the minutia to administer the Troop.
