I’m the Membership chair for Troop 361. As such, I pull training records maybe 1-2 per month - more like 5-6 during crossover season. Doesn’t seem excessive to me, but apparently it does to Betty. (feels like a bug to me - this is the first in weeks!) Thoughts?

All of the support for the my.scouting interface has to be through council professional staff, since only they can submit MemberCare tickets to national.
That said, I got the same results for clicking the “help” button in Betty, so I suspect it’s an underlying bug unrelated to trying to pull the records.
I was hoping there was a more direct feedback channel, since the Betty bot is tagged as being in beta.

Is there a “non-beta” way to get training records for someone who is not (yet) registered with your unit? Our council requires full training to apply, so I always check.
For quick YPT/SYT status on folks not yet registered with the unit, I’ve done much the same thing you did.
To the extent that we’ve needed to, I usually ask folks to download their certificates/training history and provide it. If they go to my.scouting and click on My Training then Completed Training, there’s a Member Training Report that can be downloaded. I’m not sure if they get anything in My Required Training if they aren’t already registered in the relevant role somewhere.

Yeah if your council requires that - it is a council problem and I as a volunteer would not even help them.
When you apply as an adult - you are just applying to join the unit as a Scouter, then you are placed in a position by the COR or Chair. Yes the app as a position you want to be, but it is not your decision. So there is no way to have Full Position Training, as you do not know what position you will be given.

Yeah, I hadn’t thought of it from the perspective that Donovan raised. Things like IOLS (for ASM/SM Position Trained) is usually oversubscribed around here, so getting in would be a challenge if you weren’t already registered. It almost seems like the council is pushing folks in the direction of registering as a Unit Scouter Reserve (just YPT/SYT) and then transitioning from there to their actual intended role after they are able to complete the full training suite for whatever role they’re entering.
Nope, they don’t let folks register as USR. We end up recommending that folks interested in ASM register as MC while they wait for IOLS. To be fair, this does give them a chance to learn how the troop works before they’re signing off requirements / helping mentor youth leaders /etc, but I won’t say I love it.
The reason that I check before submitting is that as membership chair my job is to shepherd them through the process. If I just submit apps without checking training it just makes more work for me and more confusion for the prospective adult.
Does “they” here mean the unit?
If council wants to require it (and limit volunteer count even more) I think the within the first year is much more reasonable - as that lets the my.scouting system tell the user what is needed to be completed
Sorry, no it’s the council setting this policy. Above my pay grade :). I’m the unit membership chair.

I would still push this to Council to handle. The Council does not see online applications until after the COR approves it. Let the Council determine if all required training has been completed.
