Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
I have added comments to merit badge requirements when a Scout needs feedback on a topic, rather than in an email no one else can see but the Scout and an adult. I thought the Scout could see the comments, but they report they cannot.
The heading of the page says “These notes are private and personal and will only be seen by those who have permissions to view [Scout’s Name]’s advancement.“ When I hover the mouse over the Scout’s name on the list of those who have permissions, it looks like the Scout should have permission.
Maybe this is related to recent permission changes?
This might be a case of needing someone to watch the scout trying to access it. I’ve never had a situation where the scout couldn’t see the comments for something I added as MBC, unless they weren’t clicking in the right spot (e.g. looking at overall notes vs individual requirement notes) or weren’t logging in to the right site (e.g. my.scouting instead of using the app or Scoutbook).
I have to admit, I haven’t had to verify that since the troops moved to SB+, so I don’t know exactly what the scouts see. I’ll have to ping one at troop meeting to test it out.
seeing the scout there does not mean the scout has a way to log into see it either - and as an MBC that is a very inefficient place to communicate with scouts
The Scout said they could see which requirements were checked, but could not find the comments icon. I will see if the unit leader can assist; I am out of Council for this Scout.
