Date Jointed Scouts is not filled in for 23 of our new scouts who have joined over last 2 years so Cubscout campouts are showing up in their record. Possibly this is changing as we are having new scouts submit an online application using BeAScout website. Previously we were submitting paper applications and did not have to fill in Date joined scouts. Any help with how to avoid this as entering this date is time consuming and I can only estimate the date they actually joined our troop.
“Date Joined Scouts BSA” has never been automatically populated in Scoutbook/SB+. It has required manual intervention for any number of reasons, for example the scout turned in a paper application and began participating, but the council took time to process the application before the scout could appear in Scoutbook/SB+. I wouldn’t expect this to change (if at all) before all of Scouts BSA is ported over to SB+ from classic Scoutbook.
@TwilaLytle that is solely a user entered field - it does not auto-populate

The district people handling our applications must have filled it in as I have been the records chair for 5 years and only occasionally filled in this field. Seems strange that you would not fill this in when the scoutbook record is created since so many scoutbook functions require this field. OA Eligibility Report, Activities report and Eagle Application are the ones I can think of.
Historically, this date might well have had little to do with the date that the scout actually joined, one example of which I noted above.
I would be surprised if anyone at the district had access to edit the Scoutbook record, at least in the past. Maybe they have more edit access now that I would expect, but hat still seems somewhat unexpected to me.
@TwilaLytle
The reason it is not filled in automatically is date the BSA has for the start of Scouts BSA membership is almost always wrong. The BSA starts all memberships on the first of the month the Scout joins. Since very few Scouts join on the first of the month, it is better to let the unit fill the date in. This becomes even more critical for OA if the Scout camped with the pack immediately before joining the troop since Cub Scout camping does not qualify for OA.
