There is a bug in Scoutbook, where a Den Leader with a Den Admin role isn’t automatically connected to new scouts in their den.
This has been reported in previous posts by others, but the answer is always “there’s a glitch where you have to update the Den Leader’s admin role to fix this”.
This is a formal request to fix that bug, such that when a new scout is added to a den, the Den Admins of that den get automatically connected to that scout.
Note: This is a re-post of the same topic that wasn’t answered and got automatically closed due to no response: Den leaders can’t see new scouts
@MatthewRoss1
Are these Scouts in AOL dens or other levels too?
Please post a few Scout Member IDs (no names). The developers will need to know who to look at.
They are at all levels, I believe. I will post some examples of scouts I just added today/yesterday after verifying they’re not visible to the den leader.
Also kind of sounds like the Den leader might have 2 accounts
Perfect example, just added a new Bear scout to our Bear den yesterday night.
Bear Den Leader & Den Admin: 14300454
New Bear Scout: 141126393
@MatthewRoss1
How was the Scout placed in the den? From the Edit Den screen of Scoutbook Plus or via the Scout’s membership page?
@MatthewRoss1 probably best to have Den Leader sign on so we can help and see directly
I always add scouts to their respective dens using Scoutbook Plus’ “Edit Den” feature.
Can you clarify what the “Scout’s membership page” is?
@MatthewRoss1
In Scoutbook, Roster → Scout → Scout’s Membership
I know how to fix the issue using Connections Manager or by re-assigning the role, I’m asking for this bug to be fixed permanently for everyone going forward.
Let me know if you still think we need the den leader though.
I can see in the Connections Manager that they don’t have access to the scout.
OK we think we see an issue - it seems they are not connected to scouts. Try a fix for us @MatthewRoss1 - go to Scoutbook > Unit Roster > click the Den Leader Admin role > click Save - see if that forces the connection
Apologies @DonovanMcNeil, but again that’s not what I’m looking for from this bug post.
I’m looking for a change in the system so that this issue doesn’t happen.
When I add a scout to a den, their den admin should get permissions to them automatically.
@MatthewRoss1
There is a story in the backlog to fix this issue. We cannot say when it will be ready for release. For now, continue use your connection manager workaround.
Thanks, would the issue be prevented, by chance, if I did use the Scoutbook Membership page?
@MatthewRoss1
Possibly but there is a risk of the Scout falling out of the unit. You MAY be able to use the Reassign Scout button on the Scout’s Membership page but only if the Scout is NOT being placed in an AOL den.
Have you waited for 24 hours after moving them into their den to see if the connections are established? There are some overnight processes at play, too. I’m not saying that’s ideal, but it helps isolate the issue.
@jacobfetzer
It has been enough time that they should have been connected. There is an open JIRA story to fix the problem.

Thank you all! Not the ideal outcome, but at least there is a known task ready for prioritization. I imagine this affects every single unit in the nation… so I think that could merit immediate attention. My two cents.
@MatthewRoss1 the hard thing is for us is seeing it - in my testing on Test server it does not fail - that is why I would like first contact with a DL to get a video to SHOW Devs the issue. LOL Videos make a rather good point to them
