I am the CM for my pack. I have several new scouts this school year who I assign to dens, show up in SB and SB+ as assigned, but then the den leaders do not automatically receive connections. I have seen other forum posts on this same thing. I am having to manually check every new scout and assign connections for most to their den leader. This used to be automatic. Is this a bug that people are aware of, or is this an additional step that the key3 must take going forward?
@JohnCarson - you want to make sure that the den leaders are also noted as den admins
Yes, they are. I did check that too.
@JohnCarson - and you are assigning the dens via scoutbook plus ?
Yes, sure am. I have had three scouts not show up on Den leader connections. I’ve now gone in a manually checked every den and every scout. I have the connections set for everyone and will check for any additional new scouts we have this year. We had a pack meeting this Tuesday and noticed this “feature” because several of our new Cubs were not receiving awards. Remedied now, but hopefully this is not going to be an issue for future new scouts and den leader permissions.
Den Leaders assigned to dens are also supposed to be assigned as Den Admins for those dens automatically. The Den Admin role is the one that automatically gets Full Control for youth members of the den.
@JohnCarson - this is your den assignment window:
Yes, understood… I have that view. Not all of my den leaders have then seen kids in their dens. I did a cross check of SB+ with SB, and I see all the kids in dens in both places too. But when I looked at the old SB and the connections, the kids my den leaders could not see were not in the old SB connections. So not sure how the two are playing together, but SB+ and SB look good to me… but not my den leaders (until I went back and updated connections via the old SB… despite the new SB+ showing me the kids were correctly in the dens). So I think I’m good now, but I’ll wait to see what happens the next time I have a new scout that I add to a den through SB+ (the view that you sent).
@JohnCarson - the other issue is that the den leaders should be working in advancements.scouting.org for cub scout advancement.
I think they have to… if someone tries to enter an advancement through SB, the site forwards them to SB+ (advancements.scouting.org).
but I will ask them to be certain
That sounds a lot like the DLs’ Den Admin roles weren’t “sticking”.
When you were in Scoutbook, did you see a Den Admin position for the DLs assigned to the relevant den? If so, and the next “new” scouts in the den don’t appear to be connected, try refreshing the Den Admin role by going to the DL’s name in the Scoutbook roster, selecting the Den Admin role for the den, make sure it’s approved, then save. If it’s like the Unit Admin role, sometimes they seem to get “disconnected” in the background, even though they look fine in the UI. Re-saving the role should push it out to the system again and force the connections in the process.
