Error: MemberId should be from the same council of the organizationGuid in the request

error: MemberId should be from the same council of the organizationGuid in the request.

I am the Scoutmaster trying to make recharter work.
An adult Committee Member, listed on my Troop Roster as # 136053903, whose YPT was or was about to expire retook his YPT and sent me the the Certificate dted 12/14/22 which has a different id number: 12976979. Since his YPT status remained negative on the recharter I deleted him and tried to add him as an existing member using the new id number on his YPT certificate.
I got this error message.
“error: MemberId should be from the same council of the organizationGuid in the request.” sic

I sent him instructions on how to make the new number his primary number thinking that would solve the problem. He hasn’t got back to me yet, so I don’t know if he made the change but his old number is still listed in Scoutbook .

Will making his new id number his primary number allow me to add him?

I don’t think he should have to file a transfer application as he is already a member of this Council and my Troop albeit under a different number than his YPT. .

It sounds like they created a different login to take YPT than they originally used to take it for their previous registration?

I would try having them set the BSA ID in your roster as primary, add the “new” number as an additional ID number using Manage Member ID at my.scouting for their original account, then re-add them 24-ish hours after they add the second ID, but use their original (registered) ID number.

Ok I will try that.
Im getting the same message for another adult who has been a multiple member with my Troop for a number of years. His YPT and primary is in another council and he doesn’t want to make this council his primary. How can I add him to the roster?

@CharlesMcDonald I just fixed the first one, although you might need to wait a bit for everything to sync up. I would recommend having him log in at my.scouting and double-check his e-mail and address, as both were different between my.scouting and Scoutbook.

If you could post the BSA member number of the other person, we can take a look.

With a multiple membership in two councils, I think he pretty much has to have 2 Scoutbook userIDs.

Wouldn’t the dual-registered leader also need two concurrent BSA IDs, one for each council? I’m not sure what impact there would be from having both under management at the same my.scouting account, though.

Yes, he would have 2 BSA member numbers.

I think he might also need 2 user names at my.scouting: one for each council.

Ack. That sounds potentially troublesome all over the place, not the least of which would be trying to demonstrate compliance with YPT without taking it once under each login. Could the affected user list BSA ID #1 as primary and BSA ID #2 as secondary under my.scouting account #1 and vice versa for my.scouting account #2?

Yes, I think that would work. Although they will likely get a little messed up each time one of the unit’s Recharter gets posted due to the automatic membership update.

He has two ids but current YPT is assigned to only the one in the other Council.
Here is the id that showed up on my recharter roster with expired YPT. 120106844
The one with current YPT in the other Council is 136335231

I think something is snarled up. In ScoutBook at my Troops Roster when I click the father’s name and then click edit profile I get the son’s name who recently turned 18 and who we are reregistering as an Assistant Scoutmaster. The Son has the same first and last name but has a middle name and was born in 2004 not 1973.

@CharlesMcDonald If you could please check again tomorrow. Sometimes you have to wait for the overnight sync.

Is that a sync issue? The sons name is on the father’s id #. That is new .

I am getting the same message as before when I try to add 12976979 as an existing member to the recharter.

Success! I added the member under his old id back to the Roster from the removed list and his YPT shows current. I should have done that first. Sorry.

Can you suggest a solution for the second adult? To recap, his YPT and primary is in another council and he doesn’t want to make this council his primary. The id that showed up on my recharter roster with expired YPT is 120106844
The one with current YPT in the other Council is 136335231.
Thank you so much!

@CharlesMcDonald I’m going to try to merge his training, but I need you to not try to make changes with this adult’s account while I’m working on this.

I will let you know when I’m done.

@CharlesMcDonald His training has merged, but you might have to wait overnight for everything to sync up.

Thank you so much! We filed our recharter.
What advice can I give my folks to avoid duplicate ids? It seems to be a very common problem I see in the forum.

The unit key-3 can enter training via Training Manager. Just take the certificate and enter it into the system. For their my.scouting account under Manage Member ID, make sure both bsaid# are listed. That will not fix all but will fix many problems.
