The issue as I see it is there is no way to mark an ”awarded” date. It automatically reverts to today’s date. So if you’re doing a mass entry of data, or correcting old dates, it will say: “Completed 1/1/2024, Approved 1/1/2024, Awarded 8/27/205” and there is no way to adjust the latter date. Therefore, any MB I update pulls everything out of compliance with past advancements. I now have numerous scouts stuck in ranks because of this factor, which is terribly frustrating as we have a big troop and are trying to get everything up-to-date. We only do two courts of honor per year, and thus only award them during those events. This was not the case with Scoutbook, just Scoutbook Plus.
Well Awarded and Approved are just Audit Data (for record keeping) - Complete is and should be the only official date.
Agreed on that 100% - but that’s the hang-up. It’s going by Awarded and not Complete.
We believe the root cause has been identified and the developers are working on the fix.

Our advancement chair identified 135153677 with this error tonight trying to get their Life scout rank onto the Needs Purchased report. Can someone look at this particular scout? All merit badges needed are done.
What BOR date are you trying to enter?
Scout added 8/20/25 for BOR date in Scoutbook on 8/25/25.
Personal Fitness is not approved. I wonder if having a completion date on it is causing the issue. Try clearing the completion date then approving Life.
All of these were already awarded. Some over a year ago. We have gone back in Per Fitness and several others and added the approved checkbox. Number 3 of his rank requirement is still only listed as Completed and we can’t mark number 3 has no way to mark it as Approved. We tried to approve number 8 and get the error still.
It looks like unit leader signatures are missing for all of his merit badges. That should have been done before we awarded most of these over a year ago.
I’m at a loss for what to try next. The SUAC member who knows most about this problem will be back online in the morning.

@CathyLeeke here is what I THINK the issue is - Star/Life are prioritizing all Eagle Required MBs even over elective MBs that have earlier dates. That messes things up. The work around is messy, and unless documented error prone. If trying to fix I would take these exact steps.
- PRINT a Scout History Report for the scout as they stand in system today. Make sure you see All MB Dates.
- Then you have to go back through Eagle Required MBs - One by one - getting them to an uncompleted status and therefor unapproved - until you have the minimum # needed for the given Rank (Star 4 / Life 7)
- Then set a date for the Rank and Approve to Lock it.
- Then go back in and re-enter all the MBs that you uncompleted before using the information from the History report.
The alternative is waiting for a fix that is being worked on
ALSO - Council can force enter rank dates in their systems and it will show in SB+ for you
This does not work - I’ve tried “unawarding” and just going with approved dates, but it puts up an error message saying “This MB counts toward an approved rank; unapprove the rank before proceeding” (paraphrased). But the rank is not yet approved, and thus can’t be unapproved, so I’m stuck in a loop. Since MBs for advancement are auto-chosen, I can’t unapprove that specific requirement to unlock the MB.
