Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
The online registration process seems to only allow one parent to get linked to the scout (or at least that is how many people are going thru the process for us this year)
We have been getting requests for both parents to get added to pack communications, and it is a manual process to set up new accounts in old scoutbook. This is just another task that pack leadership needs to handle when it seems like something that can be added to the tool.
I am requesting:
When registering a new scout- there should be a clear option/direction to create a second parent account (or link an existing BSA account)
Families should be able to do this themselves - i.e. add a second parent account to their scout via Scoutbook Plus
It is limited as to what Scoutbook can do as there are security issues with just blindly allowing someone to add another adult as a parent.
The BSA is investigating ways to make this easier after the scout is registered but we cannot say when this work may be completed or if will eventually lead to new capabilities.
I suggest you talk to your council about opening a ticket to request the online youth application be updated to allow for multiple parents. This would be the easiest way at least for new scouts to have multiple parents connected.
For the first, the councils will need to advocate for that with national. For the latter, something to make it easier to add a second parent is on the radar, although I don’t know the exact details or when it will be implemented.
