Incorrect use of the term “ScoutNET”
“ScoutNET” is frequently incorrectly used to refer to a database or databases connected via ScoutNET. My understanding is that the membership database system has been changed from PASPROD to AKELA.

History
I suspect the use of the term “ScoutNET” predates the internet when mainframe computers where connected via telephone connections.
Global “Scoutnet” history is available at http://www.scoutnet.org/history.htm (non-secure internet link). There is a “ScoutNet” web service, also known as “ScoutNet Deutschland” in Germany at https://www.scoutnet.de/.
ScoutNET to be retired - BSA Announcement post refers to a “ScoutNET computer system” established in 1998:
The BSA will be retiring the ScoutNET computer system soon (scheduled for Jan 3, 2022.) This system was primarily used by councils. ScoutNET was fundamental to administering units, finances and advancements. It is a system that was put in place in 1998 and has served the BSA faithfully over the years, however it is now outdated and has to be retired.
