Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
How are Scoutbook Plus connections added and viewed? I have a longtime ASM who has permission to record rank advancement in Scoutbook but cannot in Scoutbook Plus. Are connections only being done through legacy Scoutbook? In Scoutbook Plus, where can I see who the scout is connected to (other than parents).
There’s a known issue with ASMs that the developers are actively working, based on posts in other threads by SUAC volunteers. It’s unclear when they’ll (developers) figure out what’s wrong on the back end and get it fixed.
Eventually, all connections will be managed via SB+ (kinda), but permissions will be much more closely tied to actual registered positions (i.e. in my.scouting) vs the user-editable positions in classic Scoutbook.
There was a suggestion by one of the SUAC that making the scouter a Key 3 Delegate (Functional Role) in the Position Manager at my.scouting (requires unit Key 3 access) might overcome the issue after a 24-48 hour sync, but they weren’t sure either.
Related to this - our Advancement Chair is unable to approve anything in SB+. She is a committee member on our official roster and has full control permissions for all scouts set in SB (and I see her listed when I check a scout’s connections in SB). But when she tries to mark rank requirements as completed/approved in SB+ she gets this error message: “User is not authorized to access this API.” Is this the same issue that’s being worked related to ASMs? If it is, that’s a huge problem, as a key part of her role is ensuring that SB+ reflects what’s been marked off in their handbooks.
One other factor in linking rank requirement editing privileges to the adult position is that there seems to be a limited number of people I can put into certain positions. In our troop we have one adult associated with each patrol to keep their physical scoutbook and scoutbookplus up to date. This can be challenging to say the least even with trying to track down 5 physical scoutbooks.
I would like to know which positions allow for requirement editing privileges. If one of those is assistant scoutmaster that would be great as it appears I can put an unlimited number in that category.
As of the last I’ve seen in the Change Logs, the developers have not yet released a fix for the issues with ASM access to enter advancement data in SB+.
Suggestions that have been floated include making the relevant users Key 3 Delegates (functional role) in the position manager at my.scouting, then waiting 24-48 hours for the sync to push out to SB/SB+. However, that doesn’t appear to have worked in 100% of cases based on posts in the forums, and is limited to a total of 3 individuals. The Unit Advancement Chair functional role in my scouting is also supposed to have access to mark advancement Leader Approved.
