Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
Learning the new system where parents renew membership for their scouts outside the recharter process.
Most of our scouts are in the two-month renewal period before they expire in July.
Many have parents already renewed their scouts using the email link.
I have a mother who can’t find the email. She’s trying to renew her son through SB+, but it’s giving her headaches about “positions”. I think the system thinks she’s trying to renew herself, and she’s not registered.
How to I send her the proper link? Where does one go to renew their son?
@WayneG - first issue is figuring if the parent is connected in Membership Database to Scout (not Scoutbook.). They can log into my.scouting.org > Click My Applications > there are 4 tabs - they can click around looking for scout > if they are connected there is a renew tab there they can use.
If they do not see Scout - I recommend that They contact your local council and ask them to use the Registrar Tools to look up the children. When they look up the children, they want to check children’s “User Relationship” and make sure that children are connected to parent with Only the correct BSA member ID number for parent
there should always be one parent connected - but what happens is a parent registers scout - so parent gets a BSA # they do not know about - then Unit might make a secondary number and connected parent in scoutbook so they are not connected in AKELA (membership) - or parent then registers as a leader and gets the same outcome
@WayneG OK this is fixed - the mom can go to my.scouting.org as listed above and solve it with her email log in and renew - the email on her other account was a bad one that is where email went - I suggest watching over shoulder to help
