Issues with connecting MBC to scouts

Hello,

I have gone back a forth with council to try and figure out a resolution, who also asked National. Advice was given to clear cache, etc. Tried that. I was working with another leader to try and connect with her credentials and she had the same issue. When I find a MBC, I can see them listed but when I try and connect them to a scout it says they don’t exist. I didn’t used to have that issue. I usually can find them if I use their membership#. But how to I get their membership ID if I they are out of our troop? Has anyone else had this issue?

@RebeccaDevlin

We recommend using The Scoutbook Feature Assistant Extension for Chrome and Firefox to connect Scouts and MBCs. It searches and makes the connection in one step. Note you must use Legacy Scoutbook (https://scoutbook.scouting.org) on a computer with Chrome or Firefox and the extension installed for this function to work. Search the Chrome or Firefox extension stores for Scoutbook.

You can also just use Scout’s Connections, instead of MBC search, and use that to connect an MBC - which I find has a higher success rate once you know the info

Unfortunately that doesn’t always work either. I just used it for one scouts connection and it worked but tried another MBC with another scout and it didn’t work. It is telling me that “no record found” even though I can find them in the MBC list on scoutbook.

@RebeccaDevlin- just an FYI - the MBC can connect themself to the scout.. I just did that for 4 scouts that i worked with on surveying merit badge. Also, if the MBC is in the same unit as the scout the “not found” will happen as they are ALREADY connected but not as an MBC

So I just tried that. It didn’t work. I got the same message that the says “no record found using the search criteria” Before whatever changes they made over the summer I was able to locate the MBC with just the name. I can find them with usually their membership number, but I don’t have a list of membership numbers for leaders not in our troop.

@RebeccaDevlin well MBCs can also control who can find them. What is the MBCs Member #?

So I have his membership ID. Again I can find him when I do the mbc search. I tried to add him to a scout connection for a merit badge but it is still telling me that it can’t find them with the search criteria even though I have his MB#, email and city/state.

@RebeccaDevlin- what is the member ID of the the MBC in question ?

@RebeccaDevlin- no names please in a public forum

@RebeccaDevlin lets go back to the simplest solution. Is that person already connect to the Scout in Legacy? If so they cannot be searched for. Just go to the connection and add the MBC Checkbox

So I just tried to connect him via through the actual merit badge and it allowed me to invite him. It didn’t give me that option last week when I tried. SMH… I appreciate your help with this. I don’t know why I can’t connect them through connections.

I am an assistant scoutmaster and MBC and i cannot add scouts nor can the scoutmaster find or assign me to the scouts. I am listed as an assistant scoutmaster and am approved by my council for Fire safety. He tried doing this in scout book legacy as well and no dice. My member ID is 141256633

@GregoryKinchla- i was able to add myself as an MBC by using the scout last name and member number just a few days ago.

Using Legacy is still the only way to connect MBCs. It is easiest from the MBC side - go to My Connections > click ADD

If you are already connected to Scout it is a little different
