I’ve tried seraching the forum but haven’t found what I was looking for. I am a Cubmaster of a good size pack. I’m trying to order service stars. When I run a unit roster report in SB+, the join date is blank for all members (adults and cubs). Really trying to understand if there is a way to get this data - I can’t pull 60-80 dates by hand. Thanks!
Join date is an audit date that is user filled in for a hand full of reports. Membership in SB+ is limited to the current registration.
Join date was really more intended for the older Scout programs (Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts) as a way to separate those programs from Cub Scouts, which is needed for certain things, like Order of the Arrow eligibility, etc.
However, you can get something similar from a report in my.Scouting, called the Record of Change report. It is available on the Roster screen, then click on the Reports tab. Please note that the Date Joined here is the date that they joined your unit, so if they have ever been registered in another pack, it won’t include that date.
Tenure Stars are really an award individual users should self track - as no one unit or council would have all the information.
You can get the registration history by using the Unit Advancement Details report at my.Scouting, but it is an individual report, so you would have to go one by one. It does include registrations from other units, but only in your council.
Thank you Jennifer. For the vast majority, the my.scouting report “Record of Change” works. For the 7–8 transfer Scouts, I am pulling this Unit Advancement Details and can look at which Cub ranks were signed off in SB+ and get my service star order sheet finished tonight! Appreciate it!
@BrianCuster - while I understand and appreciate your efforts on service stars I can say after having done that in our pack you are better off spending time and money on better things. There is zero ROI with them and once you get to the point of carrying more around then you hand out you will stop the exercise.
It’s the end of my 2nd year as Cubmaster. I was too busy last year to do the youth stars. I still did the adult leader stars. I think they are great as they help the parents recognize the strength of the experience of the leaders (along with the knots).
I have about 30 stars in my pack’s inventory and 20 of them are being used this week before we buy more. I will end up with <12 to keep for next year. And I have a parts bin of belt loops, patches, pins and pocket cards that lives in my trunk full time so the extra aren’t a big deal. ![]()
That said, I miss having the stars on my own kids uniforms and I think they are a small token of our saying “you made it another year” - and for the kids that didn’t make rank, its a bit of a consolation. I still have my youth shirt with service stars on it. We are a bigger pack though and can afford it. I would see skipping them if in another position. We don’t do the perfect attendance bars.
@BrianCuster - I am glad they are appreciated. But at least you have some method of arriving at who gets what star. As long as it works for you and is manageable.
