Key 3 unable to change my Scoutbook Plus permissions

Hi there friends - looking for advice:

My Key 3 are unable to change my (108823964) permissions as Assistant Scoutmaster. From what I can tell, no default permissions are given to me as the ASM role. I’m trying to gain access to the Advancement and Activity permission categories. Any advice would be appreciated.

@JohnBorst The issue is that you are registered as a Committee Member, not as an Assistant Scoutmaster.

If you are supposed to be registered as an ASM, one of your Key 3 should change your position using the Position Manager at my.Scouting. (The Position Manager can be found on the Roster and also on the Organization Manager). After making the change, you will need to wait for the overnight sync to run.

Thx @Stephen_Hornak - yes, my team is aware of that permissions knowledge base article. Great resource, too!!

@JenniferOlinger - As I look at our unit roster, I see that the next to my position it reads “Committee Member.” But there is a symbol there that looks like a number 1 enclosed in a rectangular box. When I mouse-over that symbol, the pop-up menu reads “- Assistant Scoutmaster”. So I’m a bit confused as to what role I have in SB+.

@JohnBorst Log in at my.Scouting.org, and go to “My Profile”. Scroll down to the “Registrations” section, and you will see your official registered position(s) there. You should also be able to see your current registered positions by clicking on “My Application”.

It looks like you were added as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Patrol Admin in Scoutbook (legacy) a few years ago. Those roles are unofficial, and they do not grant you permissions in Scoutbook Plus.

Thanks for clarifying Jenn! I knew roles didn’t port over to SB+ from Legacy, and had incorrectly assumed I had ASM permissions. I think this is what is causing confusion to other members of our leadership team and their lack of permissions on SB+. I’ll work with our key 3 to look into those changes.

A major focus of the migration to Scoutbook Plus is to have positions mirror the positions shown in My.Scouting to ensure positions were reflected accurately in both platforms. The main purpose it to honor the guidance of our charter organizations and the positions they approve. Therefore, Scoutbook Plus does not use Legacy Scoutbook positions. Registered positions are used to provide base permissions. Some additional permissions can be added by the unit, however, there are restrictions on what can be given.
