Leader permissions report/list?

Is there a list someplace of what SB/SBP permissions come with each leader role?
Or a way to run a report of what permissions leaders have?

I’ve wondered for years why people didn’t just look up another leader’s contact info in Scoutbook, then discovered when I multiple registered into a couple of other units, that neither ASM nor Committee Member can see that information. They also don’t have even View access to scout records. I’m often asked to do things that I don’t have permissions to do because the person asking has no clue who has the ability to create an activity log or sign off on rank advancement or lookup how many months a scout has until he ages out.

Looking through other questions, it looks like maybe ASMs have permissions to see/edit info for scouts in patrols they are assigned to, but those were old posts. Is that still accurate? None of the units I’m in have assigned ASMs to specific patrols, so that might be why we’re lacking what seems like an obvious permission for the role. I would love to know where to go to look something like that up!

I’ve also been asked to help set up the Treasurer of the troop I’m Troop Admin for with the necessary access to update the scout financial info. Does switching her position to Treasurer from Committee Member automatically do that or is there something else that needs to be done? Are any of the other roles able to see (or edit) that information?

In Legacy Scoutbook > Unit > Roster > Connection Manager - all connections are based on Leader to Scout - so depending on your connection to Scout defines your view of their parent. It is not based on Position at all (other than Admin), it is determined by what the unit sets up for each individual. This will be changing in Scoutbook + but that is the answer for now

What about for leaders who aren’t parents of a scout? I understand that I can’t see parent information for unregistered parents unless I can see the scout, but if I want to contact the scoutmaster whose son has aged out, or if someone wants to contact me as Advancement Chair to arrange a BOR, they need to use our third party website to do find my info?

I’m not entirely clear on what you’re looking to do.

Are you looking specifically for who has access to run a Roster Builder report (i.e. to be able to pull contact information)?

Are you looking for who has access to the Send Messages function in Scoutbook?

ETA:

Oh, I misunderstood what you had here:

Donovan meant it’s the connection between a registered leader and the scout they’re looking to modify, not between the scouter and their own scout.

To look at what permissions are currently assigned, a Unit Admin can go to the Connection Manager under the unit roster in Scoutbook. It provides a tabular form showing scouts and adults, with a color-coded connection between them (if any exists).

There’s some information here on permissions:

Thank you! That link is exactly what I’m looking for!

The issue with some leaders not being able to access contact information was just an example of one of the many times when people have asked me to help them figure out how to do something in Scoutbook and I’ve tried explaining it, then eventually sent screen shots of how to do something, only to find out that it’s not possible for them. Being able to see quickly whether or not someone even has permissions to do the thing they’re asking for will be so helpful.

Okay - our ASMs with no ability to see or record advancements are all figured out.
I think that I’ve got the Treasurer figured out for payment logs, but need her to confirm.

I can’t find anything in that Help doc, though, that addresses any permissions regarding seeing or updating adult records. Are admin level permissions required to be able to see another leader’s profile, training, leadership history/positions held, etc?

@ChristyDryden - training is in my.scouting.org so i would suspect key3 and their delegates and the unit training chair. The same would most likely have admin access in scoutbook & scoutbook ÷

So, if a unit wants their leaders to have access to contact info for each other, it’s up to the key 3 or delegates to create a file with that information and share it to the others?

@ChristyDryden - in scoutbook as a unit admin I can go to the unit then roster, click the gear and check the box to show contact info and last visit to the site/login. It may be best to figure out what you end goal is rather than piecemeal this whole thing. You can email me and I can set up a screen share to walk through the basics with you. my email is sjhjr@comcast.net

My end goal is just a general understanding of who can do what.
I know how to access everything myself, but don’t have any way of knowing who else can see things until get frustrated with them asking me for information and tell them to look it up themselves and find out that they can’t!
If we did a screen share, would we be able to look at the site with non-admin settings?

The help wiki is generally pretty accurate in that regard. For example, searching on “Edit profile” got me this:

There’s also this article on permissions:

@ChristyDryden - send me that email and we can go through it.
