Since it has been decided to only allow the current version and previous version of a merit badge to be updated through Scoutbook, will Scouting America make sure that they don’t update the merit badge every year? My son started Cooking in 2023 and is already two versions behind so my understanding is that we’ll need to get him a blue card printed and track things that way. Either that or change how it works to allow the current version, previous version and any other version within the last 3 years or so.
I’ve looked over the changes to the cooking merit badge and they are primarily changing the wording. I do not understand why Scouting America changed the badge three years in a row instead of waiting longer in between changes, especially in light of limiting Scoutbook to only the current and previous version.
This is a suggestion that needs to be fed up through your Council professional staff to National. We cannot say why or how often MB versions will change and the SUAC does not have influence over the Scouts BSA program office.
I had this same issue after a Scout finished MB requirements for Cooking, I was able to force feed them into scoutbook, not into advancement. But once It finally allowed me to update there it did update in advancement. I hope they allow for former MB’s to be marked off, some scouts are actively working on them and need either the older version, Or need the newer version to be allowed to be exchanged in place of the started MB.
I was able to correctly print a blue card for him from the troop page in Scoutbook Classic. I also printed off his Scouts BSA Report with his completed requirements listed as well.
Thank you for your reply. It doesn’t help however. The scout’s Citizenship in the World MB page at Scoutbook Plus still shows the version of 2016. It doesn’t have the two checkboxes for approvals.
@ShuZhang trying to understand this - so the issue is when YOU sign in and go to Cit World you see no checks for Approve or Award? Is that in Legacy or Scoutbook+?
