Messaging - Connected Scouts and Parents

Under the new messaging feature, there appears to be a significant disconnect between the “Selection via Adults” lists and the “Selection via Youth” lists.

  • When I filter by a subunit and select election via Adults tab, I see a much larger and more complete list of adults that I am able to select.

  • However, when I switch to Selection via Youth for the same subunit, the youth appear—but their connected parents/guardians do not show up, even though both parents are properly linked to the Scout in their profiles under relationships.

  • In other words, the system is not consistently showing the parents attached to each youth when filtering via the youth-based view.

A clear example of this issue is my own son—both parents are correctly connected to him in the system, only my name appears under the “Selection via Youth” filters, my wife, his mother should also appear to.

This inconsistency makes it difficult to reliably message families and raises concerns that the new system is not pulling the correct relationships when filtering by youth.

@DarrenFerlazzo - when you look at your son’s profile at advancements.scouting.org do both parents show there. You can not use the connections in classic scoutbook as a guide for who will be in the email list for parents.

The developers are aware of issues with the youth and adult lists. I’ll make sure they are aware of this one specifically.
