Natl Outdoor Award - Hiking incorrectly shows completed

NOAA Hiking segment is getting automatically marked complete when award profile is opened for viewing, despite the scout having not met the requirements for completion and no changes are being entered or saved.

I saw other reports of auto-complete not working for Natl Outdoor Achievement Awards not working, but I believe I am reporting something different here.

We have two scouts who have NOT yet earned the Hiking segment for the Natl Outdoor Achievement Award, but they are working on it and are close. They both have not yet finished their Orienteering merit badge, so the segment requirements are not complete.

However, the segment is showing up in the “To Approve” tab:

Interestingly, when I first looked at “To Approve”, only this scout (133509929) showed up in the list, but I knew that one other scout is in the exact same situation. So the critieria for them showing up in the list should be identical. I went the second scout’s profile, looked up his NOAA Hiking segment and saw that both scouts still show that neither has completed the Orienteering merit badge, BUT both scouts are showing that the segment is “Completed” and the date for each completion is the date that I viewed the award in their respective profiles.

When I went back to the “To Approve” tab, after viewing the second scout’s award in his profile, now I am seeing BOTH scouts listed as “completed” (which they are not) and needing to be approved (but this is should not be the case).

I hope the detail on this use case can help the developers track down why this award is automatically marking itself as complete when all requirements are not complete and no changes are being entered or saved by the person viewing the award.

@AaronGjerde it clearly says you marked it complete. You can click the > beside the date to erase it - click on/hove on little calendar and an X will appear - click and Save to erase

I can assure you I did not click on anything to mark the award complete - the change in completion status happened automatically. All I did was view the award.

And to confirm, I was able to click on the little X and remove the completion date.

I’m glad this functionality to remove an erroneous completion date exists, and maybe when the current storm of bugs are fixed, an improvement could be considered to make this more obvious and intuitive.

Thank you!

Aaron
Just a note that it’s worth looking up the AaronOnScouting article that covers the NOAA. In there the guy who wrote the NOAA requirements says that all scouting activities count towards the awards. He points out that activities in Cubs are included.
I had to go back and figure out what my son had done in Cubs as the Pack didn’t have records. It made a bit of a difference. My son has the NOAA medal and all the rockers with pins. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of all the miles, nights, and hours.
