Sometime in the last 3 days, our troop has lost the ability to send a Scoutbook Plus message to specific leaders in then troop. There are about 40 registered leaders in our troop, but the only ones who now cannot be messaged are the 9 leaders who have been assigned “Create Messages” permission. Even our Scoutmaster and Committee Chair are affected. These 9 leaders appear in a separate section at the top of the messaging list, as well as next to their youth further down in the messaging list. The select box next to their names cannot be clicked, and sending a message to their scout does not result in copying them. Leaders who were automatically assigned messaging permission but do not have “Create Messages” listed as a position title have been unaffected by this bug.

List the Member IDs of a few with no names.

When I asked about this the other day, it appeared that what’s going on with these scouters is that they are listed both as “Parent of” and “Child of” their scout. I believe we had to ask the registrar to fix this for us.
If you scroll down, can you see the scouters further down in the potential recipient list? That’s what ours looked like.
I don’t think that’s the case, because I’m one of the ones affected, and I don’t have a child in the troop. And you can’t send these individuals messages even by clicking on their scout’s name further down. Furthermore, there are dozens of other unaffected leaders with scouts in the troop. The only and exact thing the affected leaders have in common is that “Create messages” position/permission.
I had some like that as well, who no longer had scouts in the troop (some of them not for years). I just assumed that it was a “leftover”. Not sure what would cause it for folks who had never had a scout in the unit.
Interesting. We were able to message the impacted scouters using the “lower” appearance in teh recipient list.
Incidentally, the last time a similar bug was reported by several others (Nov/Dec I believe?), we were one of the troops affected, and I found at that time that the affected leaders were ALSO exclusively leaders who had had messaging permission manually assigned to them. That list of leaders has changed since then, because leaders come and go and permissions change, but the pattern is still identical. No leaders WITHOUT the manually-assigned calendar permission were affected before, or are affected now.
I have this same issue in my Venturing Crew but with only ONE adult being affected.
I know this is a “known issue” but I have some differences, if further information can help find a solution.
The adult (ID# 110153235) is an Associate Advisor in the Crew, but is also a Committee Chair in a Troop (as well as being in other units I can’t see because I’m not in them) In the troop, this person is not affected, only in the Crew. Manual Create message permissions were not assigned, but Calendar Editor was. Their child who is a Venturer and also in the troop just turned 18 years old 5 days ago and no adult application has been processed yet, but in Scoutbook+ they have 18+ next to their name and “participant” on the message recipient list in both troop and crew. Still listed as “youth” in my.scouting. Only one of the scout’s parents is affected, the other is not connected in Scoutbook+ as a parent, even though they were in SB Legacy and are in my.scouting.
Another Scout in the same two units, who also turned 18 last week is NOT listed as 18+ or as participant in troop or crew and their parents are not affected.
One of the 18 year olds IS listed as a participant in SB (not in my.scouting) despite not having an adult application submitted, (I’m the Crew CC and also DE, so I know). Since that is really unusual, I mentioned it because I was thinking it might affect her father’s ability to get emails. He’s the only one in the crew affected by this glitch.
I’m referring to SB+. I know she’s still registered as a youth. It shows this way in My.scouting and in MyBSA2 (as I mentioned, I’m the DE too). But SB+ lists her as participant. She’s within the grace period of not having an adult application and in (little known) fact, the registrar can’t even process an adult app for her yet because of certain system limitations (which is why the grace period is set up the way it is). I’m not worried about the scout’s role, except that it might somehow be affecting her father. He still shows as he parent in the messaging screen, but I can’t select him and I can’t select him as a leader and Father also shows at the top of the messaging recipient list as a youth without a parent email.
Hi there. My troop is having this same issue. I have had the Committee Chair and Treasurer tell me that they are unable to click on my name in SB+ to send messages. I am the advancements chair, so this is an issue. I no longer have youth in the program. My boys are 21+, but 2 are listed as committee member and the other as Unit College Scouter Reserve. I did notice that there are 3 other adults that I am unable to check their names as well if I try to send a message to them.
