Welcome! This forum has a treasure trove of great info – Scouters helping Scouters! Just a heads up, though - all content, information, and opinions shared on this forum are those of the author, not the BSA.
it says my my email may be used by another account - how can i get that cleaned up?
I also somewhat related - i’m not longer receiving messages from my troop about events or messages from scout leadership. Where can I check to be sure I’m opting in to messages. I see where to opt out, but not where to opt in.
@ElizabethMcMillan Your e-mail was also on your Scout’s Scoutbook account. I have removed it.
It looks like you are not opted out of messages from Scoutbook, so I would recommend checking your spam folder. Also ask your troop’s leadership to try sending you a test message.
Typically, only those who are invited to the event get a copy of the email reminders about the event. Similarly, the unit scouters who are sending out the emails select to whom the emails are being sent. There is no explicit opt-in (beyond providing an email address).
It might be best to coordinate with the unit leadership on which emails you’re not receiving so they can further investigate whether those are (for example) for events to which you were not explicitly invited.
@ElizabethMcMillan I would have the unit do a few tests for you - send You a message straight. Do an event just for you with a reminder. See if those get to you.
we have seen random issues with gmail for some users - one solution that has worked is adding +1 to the email “myemail+1@gmail.com” - for some reason that solves it sometimes, and the +1 still goes to your email.
do i get all message from the troop and troop leaders? how can i tell them to check on their end to be sure my husband and i are included in all groups?
There is no way for anyone on this end to check that (other than to determine if your opt-out flag is set, which Jennifer already checked). Email messages sent out from the system are not retained.
Donovan listed some suggested steps for your unit leadership to follow. If they aren’t sure how to do so, they can join the discussion here and ask any questions they have.
Jennifer noted that it wasn’t actually two accounts, rather that your email address was also on your scout’s account (which the system notifies the same way as having two accounts, since sometimes the only thing two accounts share is an email address).
Not every message from the same sender necessarily trips spam filters. I’ve had messages from the same sender on the same day where one got caught in our perimeter filters but the others (discussing the first email) got through fine. That’s the reason that Donovan suggested some of the investigations he did.
