The paper application pre-dates any electronic applications. It needs to be on the paper application so that the unit, can tell the registrar how to register the individual. Everyone must be registered in a position so if it were omitted from the paper app, the registrar would not be able to complete the registration.
A unit could tell the applicant to leave it blank so the COR can fill it in.

Does the option to require the CC to approve before it goes to the COR still exist? If so, does the CC get to specify a position, or is theirs a straight yes/no?
Straight yes/no from what I saw.
The Committee Chair can add a note recommending a position to the COR.
The my.scouting team did say that down the road when they look at enhancements to the process, they will consider some form of sharing the applicant’s interested position.

Is the Position Manager not working to change your position to Committee Member in Troop 20? If that is the case, then there is a bug.
Yes.
After we detected the error he changed me from ASM to Committee Member and hit “Save Changes”. That occurred Monday at 4pm Eastern.
We are going to wait another 24 or 48 or however many more hours, but at this point I am not certain anything will change.
At this point we are just proceeding with paper and pen and drive to scout office.
Let me try reporting it as a bug. The my.scouting team might not realize there is an issue.

The other possibility, and I’m willing to entertain this, is that I need to be patient and wait another 48 hours and see if some iteration of the nightly update solves the problem.
Possible, but it usually works overnight. I have reported the bug to the my.scouting team.
How long after approval of your position did the COR try moving you in position manager? I’m wondering if it was a timing thing and multiple transactions offset each other.
I don’t know the exact hour (I can ask the COR) but the sequence was
- Sometime in or around February 26 the application was approved
- I appeared as an ASM in my.scouting.org and Scoutbook February 27. My AkelaSBDeltaSyncInsert is dated starting on that day
- I did not detect the error until 10am on February 28
- He made the change in Position Manager at 4pm on February 28

That should have been plenty of time between events. I doubt it is a timing issue. Thanks for getting back to us.

The overnight data update did nothing; I am still listed as an ASM.
I’m curious if someone goes into position manager now, did it stick there?
I am finding that out now, but I believe it reset and did not “stick”.
The COR confirmed his screen showed me in the committee column on February 28 (when the change was made). I’ve got an email into him this morning to have him reopen the position manager and see what he sees now.
If I’m still ASM, I’m just going to give up , get a paper application to him, and drive the hour to scout store…
Yep. Just confirmed. It didn’t “Stick”. My COR confirmed this morning I was back in as ASM.
He once again moved me to committee and “Save Changes” I even have a screen capture/shot.
But at this point I am just going to get him to do a paper application and drive it to my council.
Your ASM position expired on 2/28/22. Has Troop 0020’s recharter posted?
Yes. Months ago. Would/could that be an issue this far out?
I see 2 entries for Troop 0020G. One has Committee Member listed starting 3/1/22 through 12/31/22 but it is marked as not current. The other is an ASM position that ended 2/28/22 that is listed as current.
I suggest contacting your Council registrar. They should be able to fix this to make the Committee Member position current.
