Parent showing up in MBC search, but not troop roster

I have a parent who is showing up in the MBC search but is not showing up in our roster when I run the report builder. Nor is their child.

Any ideas?

@StevenSheldon

Post the BSA number of the parent and Scout (no names) and we will investigate.

Sorry about posting the name. I figured since it is accessible through the MB search function it didn’t matter. I will have to ask them to find out their Scout number.

I was able to find the Scout and parent. The Scout is registered in your troop but since you are not connected to the Scout, he won’t appear when you run Roster Builder.

I recommend talking to one of your Troop Admins (identified with 2 keys next to their name in your troop roster) and have them connect you to all Scouts if you need to generate roster reports.

Yeah something is strange.

All the other Scouts are showing up (I exclude them from the report because I’m only looking for MBCs, but they are in the list).
And other parents are showing up. Just not this parent (or his scout).

They are not showing up in our Roster, nor are they showing up with Report Builder.

But as far as I can tell, the entire rest of the troop’s scouts, parents, and adult leaders are (the list is huge so I can’t be sure no one else is missing). But this is a new MBC and I am trying to verify he shows up in my MBC report (he isn’t, of course).

Well MBC is not a unit position - it shows for other parents only as you connected to the other scouts

OK, I think I have some clues.

When I go under my troop, and go to Troop Roster, I see all the Adult Leaders and Scouts. Some are in red text, some in black. The red scouts (most of them) I am connected to. The black scouts (a few of them) I am not.

It looks like all the black scouts are newer ones.

What I am guessing here is that when they set me up a year or so ago to run the report, I was connected to all current scouts at that time but subsequent scouts maybe I am not connected to?

Anyway, I need to be able to generate a Roster Builder Report for all adult leaders and parents in the troop, so that I can generate the list of all MBCs in the troop. I don’t need to see scouts, just leaders and parents.

What permission setting should our admin people be looking for to allow this?

You need to be connected to all Scouts with at least View Profile.

Since you are not a troop admin, you are not automatically connected to Scouts as they join the unit. A Troop admin needs to manually connect you. The easiest way is for them to use Connection Manager on the roster page, click on your name then select the desired connection level.

OK, that explains it.

Is there a way to eliminate the need to manually connect me to new Scouts? This seems like an error-prone process.

Is there a way to grant permission so that the user automatically is connected to all parents and leaders? (or scouts, if that is necessary to be connected to parents)

Only unit admins are automatically connected to all with full control.

You unit could make you a unit admin by adding the role in Scoutbook or by making you a Key 3 Delegate or Unit Advancement Chair in my.scouting.org.

OK awesome. Going to see about being made a Unit Admin.

Did you try contacting council office or your de and running a background check on said scouts and parents?

I don’t understand…a background check?
