Parents unable to connect or reconnect to their scouts after migration.
Parents already listed as Relationships or Unit leaders can deal with this as long as the parent has a Member ID - if they do not have a member ID the parent first needs to make one at my.scouting.org by creating an account.
I had an existing connection to my scouts in Scoutbook Legacy. I am missing in Scoutbook Plus and cannot seem to add myself back as I am one of the key 3. How do we work around this or fix this bug?
Hey @DonovanMcNeil and team,
My wife and I, as well as a few families in our Pack 183 unit, are facing the same issue and just discovered the problem this morning. Background:
I am the Scoutmaster of VAHC 763 - Troop 1003. My MID is 13389921.
- I am the father of T. MID 136404732. I am connected with T. in Scoutbook Plus.
- I am the father of C. MID 137110526. I lost connection to C. when I was moved to Scoutbook Plus.
- I am the father of J. MID 14367142. I lost connection to J. when I was moved to Scoutbook Plus.
My wife (Lauren Ball) is the Cubmaster of VAHC 763 - Pack 183. Her MID is 13597519.
-
- She is the mother of T. MID 136404732. I invited her to connect with T. but she receives the error “There has been an error approving the invitation.”
- She is the mother of C. MID 137110526. She lost connection to C. over the last few days.
- She is the mother of J. MID 14367142. She lost connection to J. over the last few days.
We have eight reported connections in Pack 183 that have lost connection to their Scouts with parents reaching out requesting assistance. We have found many more, but the parents haven’t reached out yet.
What is the suggested course of action? As mentioned by the thread owner, we have one Scouter at Council that can process these requests and my hesitation is that she is about to get flooded from multiple units (Troop 1003 and Pack 183 are not the only units).
@JDB your scouts have relationships with you from PAST councils it seems. If no parents show under a Scout, a leader in Unit can add a parent (just make sure it is a Member # they can sign into.)
The Old Scoutbook Connections meant nothing - these are more official Relationships that are used in other systems.
A report solution is being worked on. Depending on your Council and staff - they can also solve it pretty fast per scout hooking up the parent relationships.
On the ones you are NOT in relationship with - you can invite your wife, she finishes process and then she can invite you.
Thanks for following up. To clarify, we’ve only been members of Virginia Headwaters Council NST-12-763 (formerly named Stonewall Jackson Area Council).
The challenge with my family is that my wife is erroring out (attached screenshot in the last post) when trying exactly what you suggested: send her the invite and vice versa.
With all of that being said, it reads as if a solution is being worked on from your post and the alternate solution is to send to our council (God bless em - they’re about to get a lot of connection issues).
I will send you a direct message > look at top right Avatar to find it > it will be a green envelope > it will be a private message channel with select members of the Scoutbook User Advisory Council (SUAC)
Keep in mind connections in legacy SB will continue in SB+ to work until the end of the year. I would wait a little while before bothering your Council. The developers are working on the SB+ issues including making new relationships.
@JenniferO_Leary By “my scouts”, do you mean your children?
Thank you for following up, @edavignon . DonovanMcNeil hinted as something similar in his reply, and I understand that legacy SB connections will (are supposed to?) continue to work in SB+, however that just is not the case as evidenced by the error messages and parents having lost connections with their Scouts.
I also understand the life of a developer so I am not pushing for anything that “must be done right now”, just bringing awareness to a bug that looks to have moved in over the last week or so.
DonovanMcNeil and I have a DM message thread going with technical details and are working through some of the immediate bugs.
Thanks for all that you and your team do for us “boots on the ground”. Life is not without risk… or bugs in code. ![]()
