Hello,

I am the Unit Advancement Chair, New Member Coordinator, and an Assistant Scoutmaster with my troop.

Prior to June 10th, I had the functional positions of Unit Advancement Chair, New Member Coordinator and the Registered Position of Merit Badge Counselor. On June 10th I lost both of the functional positions and I was assigned Assistant Scoutmaster as my second registered position.

Our Committee Chair was having difficulty adding “Assistant Scoutmaster” to me so he contacted our Chartered Organization Rep. I think he might tried adding Assistant Scoutmaster to my registered position and that’s how we ended up where we are today.

I’ve been emailing both and our COR says I show up as Registered Assistant Scoutmaster and Functional Unit Advancement Chair and New Member Coordinator. At this point he doesn’t know what to do. Ive sent him screen shots from my my.scouting app showing him my positions and they don’t match what he sees. I definitely don’t have the positions because I don’t have access to the same troop reports as I use to. Any advice?

Thanks,
Mike

New Member Coordinator is a registered position and a specialized type of Committee Member.

Your New Member Coordinator (registered position) and Unit Advancement Chair (functional role) were ended in my.Scouting when your COR changed your registered position to Assistant Scoutmaster.

Committee Chairs do not have the ability to change registered positions; they can only change functional roles (except for the COR Delegate, which can only be changed by the COR).

If your registered position is not correct, your COR should be able to change it. Your COR, Committee Chair, Scoutmaster, or a Key 3 Delegate should be able to add back your Unit Advancement Chair functional role. If they are unable to do so, they should contact the local council for assistance.

Hi Jennifer,

Can you please clarify something. Our COR said that our council said there can only be 1 position per person. Are they talking about registered positions?

What are the registered positions? COR, Committee Chair, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, New Member Coordinator, and Committee Member? Anything else?

What are the functional positions? Are these all of them?

Just so I am clear, can you be in 1 registered position and 1 functional position?

How does Key 3 Delegate fit into this? Is it a registered position, functional position, or something in addition to both?

If I have the registered position of assistant scoutmaster and the functional position of unit advancement chair, will I have access to all the reports I had as new member coordinator?

@MichaelKennedy6

Only the COR can have more than 1 registered position in the unit. I personally think this is bad because it can mean the Key 3 is really Key 2 but that is what Scouting America has done.

You can assign any number of functional roles to an individual. Key 3 Delegate is a functional role. There are separate tabs in my.scouting.org Roster → Position Manager for Registered Positions and Functional Roles. An individual must hold a registered position in the unit to be given a functional role.

Thanks for the info.

Can you assign registration inquiry to anyone with a registered position or is that just for the new member coordinators?

Is there a document that says what registered positions can run what reports and have access to what information?

Do any of the functional roles give your additional access to my.scouting or is it just a title?

I believe any registered position can be assigned any functional role, however, some do not make sense. For example, Scoutmaster (a Key 3) should not be assigned Key 3 Delegate.

I cannot answer your 2nd and 3rd questions.

@MichaelKennedy6 - there is a grid at the end of this document

Can someone please clarify if I have the registered position of Assistant Scoutmaster, can I also have the functional roles of Unit Advancement Chair and Unit Membership Chair? My COR is saying he can’t add these functional roles to my profile.

The COR should be able to give you both of those role though they are typically given to committee members. I believe both are limited to one person per unit so if there is currently someone in the role, they will have to be moved out first.

@edavignon Hi, Ed! Similar questions to the above.

I am the COR for our Troop and our Pack. We have a former Committee Member who is still in this registered position and also in our Unit College Scouter Reserve registered position. When I try to remove him from being a Cmte Mbr, I receive the following note:

“This member is already assigned to two registered positions in this unit. Unassign one of the positions before assigning them to another position.”

I know this should be simple, but we are not aware of how to “unassign” someone from a registered position. I wish we did….. He is not assigned to any other registered position or functional role.

Can you help with this?

@ChadReed that is really a Council talk - most councils do not like ending registration cause it is a Numbers game.

thanks @DonovanMcNeil ! For clarification, are you saying that in order to unassign someone from a position, their registration must be ended?

@ChadReed

Donovan is saying we can’t help with the error because it is coming from my.scouting.org and that team only accepts reports from Council staff, not any volunteers, including SUAC.

Please contact your local council and ask them to end the person’s Committee Member registration. They aren’t supposed to be registered as a Committee Member and a Unit College Scouter Reserve in the same unit at the same time.

thanks @JenniferOlinger !! I will.

The only reason he is also a UCSR at the same time he is a Cmte Mbr is because I was trying to unassign him from the Committee, and instead just dragged his name to UCSR. Now I cannot undo this because I do not know how!!

Thanks @edavignon !!

How long ago did you do that? There is often a delay in reflecting the changes.
