Process for Youth Turning 18 Years of Age

What is the process for Scouts registered as a Youth that turns 18 within a recharter year? I also have a scout who turned 18 after the recharter was turned in but before it was processed; what do we do with that Scout? And one final question is whether all 18 year old Scouts are Unit College Scouter Reserve or only those who achieved Eagle (all other would just be regular adult members)?

@DeatriceWilliams

You have some options.

  1. If the Scout is not going to register as an adult leader, do nothing and they will drop off when their registration ends.
  2. Register the Scout as an adult leader, either Unit College Scouter Reserve or ASM. No need for the Scout to have earned Eagle. There will be no additional fee but the Scout will need to take YPT before registering. Make sure all advancement is compelte in Scoutbook before registering as an adult.

Thank you for your response; this helps.

@DeatriceWilliams

I had a typo that I have corrected. Individuals 18-20 can register as Unit College Scouter Reserve, even if not attending College, or ASM.

Are you aware of whether YPT can be taken as a group? They are all in one patrol and it could be a good patrol activity for them.

My understanding is that YPT is only available online, although some jurisdictions also require another in-person training sequence.

You could reach out to your district or council training chair/committee to see what’s available in your council.
