Scout gaining access to scoutbook email

We have a new SPL and we want to grant him access to Scoutbook. He has a my.scouting.org account with a unique email address. as Scoutmaster i went in to permissions manager and selected the Scout to have messaging permission but he still does not have access to Scoutbook email. I contacted council and we reset his my.scouting account and the scout logged back in but still does not have access. the information listed on scoutbook help seems to indicate all that has to happen is for a scout to create a my.scouting account with an email. Please advise and thank you

@StevenLobasso - the scout is logging into advancements.scouting.org and that has been verified ?

they do not have this menu?

Morning Stephen. I was told for them to log into my.scouting.org . I had no further instructions for the scout to complete. i did not tell the scout to log into scoutbookplus.

@StevenLobasso - well advancements.scouting.org is where messaging is.

I am sorry for any confusion. I want the scout to have access to Scoutbook email - is messaging the same as scoutbook email?

@StevenLobasso - yes…the message is scoutbook plus email module.. Click on Message and it will open and email window.

Thank you - and does this carry over to the old Scoutbook email system? Will his name appear on the list of those who will receive an email? Should we be abandoning the old system?

@StevenLobasso - at this point there is NO reason to be in old or legacy scoutbook. The message permission is to be able to send messages. The way for YOU to be sure is to go to messaging and see if he shows up on the list. I am trusting that he does not need to log into legacy.

As an Adult Leader, I have the option to email on Scoutbook Plus now. However, my daughter is SPL and she does not. All her permissions were set up on Scoutbook, and she has her own account, and has been emailing the Troop for years. Can anyone confirm if Youth have this message function? Or is there something we have to do to enable this? Thanks.

@ZoeAugenstein - the message permission needs to be added by a unit key 3 in advancements.scouting.org

@Stephen_Hornak We are still using Legacy Scoutbook messages in some cases, because the last I checked the Scoutbook Plus messaging still does not allow attachments. Attachments are vital for giving additional information in some situations. Hopefully the attachment feature will be added to Scoutbook Plus messaging soon.
