Scoutbook & Pack Master at the same time?

I’m trying to work with my new Pack to migrate to Scoutbook. They are currently subscribed to Pack Master for another year.

Can a unit use Scoutbook and Pack Master concurrently?

I’ve been using Scoutbook for 5 years and it pains me to see my son’s record disappeared into the ether waiting for a Cub Scout unit with Scoutbook to land it. I figure if I can demonstrate at the den level I can roll the rest of the unit over pretty easy.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but I couldn’t find any thing in the forums (easily).

Are you a Den Leader with the new pack?

Yes, I am a den leader with the new Pack.

in theory it could be done

I see no problem with that. But you’ll need to make sure your den’s awards get into packmaster and onto their version of the Purchase Order/Shopping list.

If I just ensure advancement/awards are handled at the den level, will the overall syncing be okay?

That is don’t try to double enter a den in Scoutbook AND Pack Master, but let each one update Internet Advancement using their own special sauce.

I’m noticing that Scoutbook does a great job populating (for another new unit) what is in Internet Advancement, but I don’t know if that is a one time only thing, or if Internet Advancement continually ensures that Scoutbook is sync’d.

Scoutbook and Internet Advancement write to the same database. It is recommended that units use one or the other, but not both.

The only problem I see is how you buy your awards. If each den already buys there own awards, using Scoutbook is fine. But as a den leader, you won’t have access to the needs purchasing report, purchase order, and advancement report in Scoutbook. The latter is what you’d need to show the scoutshop when purchasing restricted items like rank badges.
