Scoutbook Plus Individual Profile Scout BSA Rank Panel Not Loading

The “Scouts BSA Ranks” panel on the individual roster page is a “static” size, regardless zoom, on desktop Firefox and mobile Safari. This prevents clicking through to individual rank advancement, though direct navigation by adding “/ranks” works.

@Dan_SS - have you clicked on the down facing chevron in that box

Looking the shared image, yes, the chevron is pointed down, meaning it’s trying to display the information. You can even see the slightly shaded area under the header. I see the exact same behavior on my phone and tablet, but when using Edge on my laptop the ranks are shown correctly. Clicking the chevron just makes it point to the side and the area under the header goes away.

There seems to be a display issue where it’s not expanding the rank enough on certain display sizes or devices.

This is a display issue. Using the Edge Browser on my laptop I can see the

Yes - Can confirm Edge works for me, too. Unfortunately, that’s also one of the first programs I delete from any device.

@Dan_SS @MichaelWood17 that points to cache and cookies on the non working browser

Yes - And the issue can be replicated after clearing, for every browser including Edge. The box will appear as expected and expanded 1x, then repeat not loading / too small on subsequent visits. Clearing cache after each navigation is not ideal or expected functionality.

Edit: It appears the issue also affects the rank display and navigation box on the individual profile advancement pages.

@Dan_SS - I have tested firefox, chrome, edge and opera. I had the issue on chrome but a hard refresh fixed it. Did not and have not had the issue on opera or firefox. Edge at the moment is having the issue and a refresh has not fixed it.

Something else to check is that your browser is up to date.

RE Browser Updates: Yes, I just relaunched Firefox with updates on your suggestion to confirm; the others were up to date already. The issue is still present, can be corrected with a cache/cookie clear (all history), and then be re-created again on re-navigating to the page, for each of Desktop Firefox, Desktop Edge, and Safari Mobile. Navigating to an individual advancement page by adding /ranks/ to the URL also includes the attached display issue, where the rank image and navigation pane don’t load. I’ve tested this for multiple members and ranks.

@Dan_SS - for me it seems that edge is the primary offender as that section is broken everytime I relaunch edge. For chrome a hard refresh brings the display of rank back. Firefox has not been able to repro the issue. I do have it set to clear cache and cookies on relaunch. It is typically my default browser.
My firefox just updated and it now has the issue. But a ctrl-reload page fixed it

I can’t get the rank information to show no matter what I do. I’ve tried Chrome, Chrome incognito, Duck Duck Go, and Edge. I’ve restarted my computer. I’ve done a hard refresh in each of the different browsers.

@JessicaHenry_Spayde - As a workaround, if you need to enter requirements for an individual, you can append “/ranks” to the end of the scout profile URL. This takes you to the ranks pages to select a rank for the scout. You can also go directly to the rank reqs by appending “/ranks/1” for “Scout”, “/ranks/2” for Tenderfoot, etc. The panel for each page may not appear, but it seems updates will save.

Your hack works. THANK YOU! I will share this with another troop that’s having the same problem. At least we can enter data…awkwardly.

Just to confirm that I’m experiencing the same thing others have posted, I made sure I had the latest versions of Safari, Firefox, and Chrome with a New Incognito Window. Signed out, signed back in. The Scouts BSA Ranks section is empty for every single Scout in my troop (I clicked the v that usually expands the window). My access hasn’t changed. The my.scouting roster shows my position as ASM and MBC List. I’m assigned to every patrol and our COR gave me the Functional Role of Unit Support in the Permissions Manager. I can still assign MBC’s, start and approve Merit Badges, approve other awards…just can’t see ranks. I haven’t entered advancement data in over a week so I didn’t realize this was a problem till someone in my district contacted me for help today.

Interestingly, I can click on a completed rank badge in Scoutbook Legacy and it takes me to all the completed rank requirements in Scoutbook Plus. Same result as the /ranks workaround. But I can’t get to any ranks or rank requirements from within Scoutbook Plus.

The dev team has been notified so watch the change log for a fix. The issue seems to be cache/cookies. The finds i have are this:

  1. *the only browser where this is occurring on a regular basis is Edge which I hardly use

  2. My firefox browser is not seeing this but I have the open all the time with tabs for the forums and scoutbook plus open. The only time firefox is restarted is when my pc reboots

  3. Chrome did display the issue but a ctrl-r brought the images up. I will use chrome for the MB uploads from camp

I have tested chrome on my work pc it initially had the issue but a relaunch seemed to fix it there.*

What would be helpful in figuring out the root issue is knowing how often you access scoutbook

Do you keep the browser up for extended period such as days or weeks

Does this same behavior occur on your phone when accessing scoutbook plus

Certainly not the condition that anyone wants to encounter or try to work around.*

  • Interesting twist to this is if you go to the legacy page for the scout and click on the next rank percent returning back to pus will show the rank icons
