Scouter Training Certificates

@JeremyBlevins – This post began with a single post (yours) discussing training certificates. You showed a certificate for CS19 Cubmaster Training. (This is NOT a certificate that states you were fully trained as a Cubmaster; this is a certificate that states that you have completed a course titled “Cubmaster Training.”)

The post then went down the Training Validation legacy tool rabbit hole, which led to CHATBOT, and my trying to help people find where they can get a complete listing of ALL their training. (I am working with BSA IT as recently as yesterday to make the location and titles of the reports better … but keep in mind that Training is actually under the ScoutingU domain… BSA IT is just the vehicle for presenting ScoutingU’s information. [And for those who don’t know, the ScoutingU organization has been gutted much like BSA IT this past year, so they don’t have much ability to prioritize fixing things that are working but need improvement over broken things and other ‘requirements.’])

Various people on this post have complained that they can’t easily determine if a person is trained in a position and/or figure out what do they need to take to be trained. Part of the issue here (IMHO) is people are not using the correct tools… sort of like hammering with a screwdriver.

To most easily figure out if a person is trained in a position go to Training Manager for the unit/organization. Select the Add/Search button on the left hand column, then the Search Training tab. (In the screenshot below I filtered for just adults.) And then you will get this simple display that shows a TRAINED icon next to those who are trained.

Alternatively, continuing in Training Manger you can generate reports starting at the dashboard.

Using the unit example provided here, there are TWO links to use; the first on the left provides the ScoutingU approved list of what training is currently required to be considered TRAINED for all Scouting positions (plus some - but not all - of the legacy training alternatives; more below using myself as an example). The second link on the right provides a report (THE REPORT THAT ANSWERS THE QUESTION) that provides either an on screen, or exported, report with a column labeled “Trained” and provides a simple Yes/No answer. (see screenshot). Using myself as an example, you will see that it says that I am trained, yet depending which approach I were to take, it shows that I both have classroom and online training to take in order to be trained. You might ask “How can he be trained under these circumstances?” The answer lies in the fact that I completed legacy training that is the equivalent of the classroom training back in 1995 (Cub Scout Leader Basic Training). Screenshot 2020-12-31 094222 (As an FYI, I created this certificate by using the other Training Manager features to list all my training, and then print a certificate of the chosen courses.)

I think the above fully addresses you’re the issues raised in this post…. But let me know if there is an aspect I missed.
