Thank you!)
My son (141031121) and I (141059306) multiple’d from Narragansett into Mayflower.
My daughter is in Narragansett (141151519).
After some back and forth with both councils, my scoutbook account seems mostly working now - I can see all 3 units, my MBC role and both kids.
There was some issues with events in the mayflower unit but that’s resolved (I think there was still a mayflower-specific scoutbook account but now my “joint” account is invited to the events I can RSVP for myself and my son).
What’s not working is a doozy!
In my.scouting when my Narragansett ID (13513931) is primary, I can see all of my Narragansett roles and both my kids, so in theory I can renew all of them (I see a green “Active Renewal” so I think that’s working?)
When my Mayflower ID is primary I can only see myself, I can’t see my son’s Mayflower account, so I don’t see a way to renew him. I’ve been in contact with Mayflower and they’ve tweaked some things. Mayflower has been in contact with National and they’ve tweaked some things. But still no change to what I’m seeing.
The latest from National through council is to create a separate my.scouting login… which… gives me 2 concerns…
- Will this mess up a now working scoutbook again?
- I see so many people asking for accounts to be merged here, why would separating them be the right path?
and 3… how do I actually do this?
Thanks for any advice!
John,
The system does not gracefully handle simultaneous registrations in multiple Councils.
A Scoutbook account can only be associated with one Council.
Changes to registrations in either Council will cause sync scripts to run and attempt updates to the Scoutbook account. Currently, your Merit Badge Counselor position for Narragansett is in the Scoutbook account with the member ID for Mayflower. This will cause issues for folks searching for you. Additionally, your Committee Position in that Council will show you as unregistered in Scoutbook on the roster there because the account does not “belong”.
The only workable answer is to have two Scoutbook accounts, one for each Council. Currently, your My.Scouting account has the IDs for both Councils - one for Mayflower (as secondary) and one for Narragansett which is set as Primary. Scoutbook is accessed when logging in by getting directions from My.Scouting - My.Scouting’s Primary ID is used to locate the Scoutbook account. to switch between Scoutbook accounts, you would need to switch which ID is Primary in My.Scouting.
For this to work, we would need to create a secondary Scoutbook account for you. Since you have a MBC position, it would make sense to set your current Scoutbook account for Mayflower and create the new one for Narragansett.
The thing to remember is that the Primary ID in My.Scouting is the key… not just for Scoutbook access, but for registrations/renewals as well.
Thanks - right now scoutbook is mostly working for my purposes… I can record advancement for T32, I can see my own kids advancements in T12 and T51, and to date, I’ve been doing physical blue cards for MBC role and I’m loathe to risk breaking that right now.
It’s just the relationships in my.scouting for Mayflower thats causing issues right now - I have Mayflower set as primary in manage member ID. I’m also worried that if I have separate my.scouting logins, will that break the link between trainings and I’d have to do it all twice?
If you have separate username (logins) for each council, you could put your BSA member ID numbers on both:
For the username for council A:
BSA member ID number for council A would be set as primary
BSA member ID number for council B would be secondary
For the username for council B:
BSA member ID number for council B would be set as primary
BSA member ID number for council A would be secondary
You can switch which BSA member ID number is primary, and your training will get copied onto the primary BSA member ID number, so no need to do your training twice.
@John_Payne Jennifer is correct about handling my.scouting.
I warn you though, while everything in Scoutbook may be working for you right at the moment, I guarantee it will break, and you will not be happy when it does, because depending which way it breaks (the order that sync scripts run) you may need assistance from your local Council to redo MBC badge assignments. And if you keep just one account, it will break again each time scripts run.
By separating as I outlined earlier, you can avoid that and we can keep your MBC status and access to your units and kids.

I have not looked at accounts - but if one is just MBC - MBC is a universal position valid across all of scouting no matter the council.
one is ASM, committee, MBC, parent… the other one is ASM, parent
How do I create the second my.scouting account to make this happen?
So something has happened since this morning…
If I make Narragansett ID primary in my.scouting then I see that warning plus what I used to see.
If I make Mayflower ID primary in my.scouting then I see that warning and no other access in Dashboard. Under profile there’s no BSA IDs just the SB user ID
@John_Payne
By switching your primary MID and logging in to Scoutbook, you have created a duplicate Scoutbook account. This is one of the issues with being registered in 2 councils.
Mayflower has been my primary under manage member id in my.scouting for a while. When I logged into scoutbook this afternoon thats what I saw. When I switched to Narragansett then it showed me what I had been seeing previously. But I’m on board with having multiple IDs, I just don’t know how to make that happen?
Too many cooks in the kitchen…
John, @JenniferOlinger was working on straightening your accounts out. Mayflower is your Primary right now. It will connect you to a Mayflower SB account that has no positions in it at the moment because they are in process of being synced.
Narragansett is the Council where you are MBC. If you set Primary to Narragansett, you will see the SB account as it looked yesterday, but yesterday it was associated with Mayflower
So - after the Mayflower positions sync (by tomorrow) you choose which council to log in to by switching which ID is primary in my.scouting
Ed - he didn’t create the second account just now. He is registered in 2 Councils and needs 2 SB accounts
Thanks Gary and Jennifer - but National says I need two my.scouting IDs, so how do I accomplish that?
John,
You do not need two my.scouting ID’s.
Two my.scouting IDs provided a convenience of using one username to log into one council and the second username to log into the other council - but - as I mentioned earlier, it isn’t possible to create a second one now because the system was updated to match you to existing accounts when you try to create a new one.
Switching Primary IDs in a single my.scouting account gives you the ability to go back and forth between Scoutbook accounts.
Thanks - except I can’t see my son (or renew myself or my son) in my.scouting in Mayflower which is what started me down this path… National says I need a separate my.scouting account to address this.
When your primary is set to Mayflower’s ID, the my.scouting account becomes a Mayflower account.
Right now, you have Narragansett set as Primary.
Make Mayflower Primary, then you should be able to see them there.
It may require you to log out and back in for the switch to complete.
I understand that’s how it should work. But it’s not how it is working. Up until today if mayflower was my primary then everything I needed to do in scoutbook was working but I couldn’t see my son or renew either one of us.
If Narragansett was primary I could see all my Narragansett positions and both my son and daughter’s Narragansett entries. Scoutbook also seemed to do the right thing.
What makes me wonder though is that you keep saying Narragansett is primary when I look mayflower is primary. Right now I’m getting a maintenance notification but when it’s back I’m happy to send screenshots or video of what I see.
I’ve been back and forth with mayflower about this. Mayflower has been back and forth with national and national now says I need two my.scouting logins but I don’t know how to do that
