Should I Merge Member ID if active in multilpe councils?

I live on the border of Chief Seattle and Mount Baker Councils. I am an adult leader in my older sons troop and in my younger sons pack.

I have two member IDs, one for each council. I recently somehow lost my registration for Chief Seattle. I’m still in the troop, it just dropped off my.scouting and I fell off the troop roster.

When I logged in to look at the registration problem, I was prompted to Merge Member ID. Should I do the merge?

I do need to keep my roles in both. What will that look like once I merge?

Thanks

Generally, the Merge Member ID seems to be “not ready for prime time”, based on a number of problems that have been raised on the boards here after folks used Merge Member ID.

The SUAC folks might be able to provide a bit more insight into their recommendations of managing the multi-council active registration situation in the interim until the Merge Member ID process gets working properly.

@DanielMichnicki here is where this lies.

  1. Merge. There are some elements of the merge that have issues - like Scoutbook not lining up after the merge, or login not lining up. This is especially true for Scouts.
  2. What I learned today. It seems now councils can search for Users in other councils. So Chief Seatlle should be able to find your MBC MID and register you with that MID in the CSC unit - I saw this today with a user. THUS making one MID for the user, even though the other still exists.

To more directly answer the merge question. What merge is supposed to do - and achieves around 90% now. Is move everything to one MID, and end all the others. Then you see all your registrations under one log in (for SB, or my.scouting). All Registrations there, all relationships there, all training there. And then any council with a registration on the MID can deal with that registration.

Thanks Donovan!

After some more digging I see where my.Scouting has an Organization dropdown, which should let me switch between the Chief Seattle Troop and Mount Baker Pack. I also see Scoutbook Plus has a Currently viewing section where I can choose my kids or my Pack roles.

I’d love to hear from someone who has merged their Member IDs while an active leader in two councils. The published job aid doesn’t address that use case, it assumes MIDs from old councils are no longer needed.

I’m also a bit confused about what registration will look like. When I do my annual registration, I pay national and council fees. In the past I’ve only paid council fees to Mount Baker.

My sister has active registrations at the unit and district levels in two councils. She did the merge in early September and has seen very few issues, if any, from an adult perspective. And it should remove all issues going into membership renewal that have existed in past years. The PID from her paid council was the one that survived. And it has simplified her Scoutbook Plus experience.

There seem to be some council written rules:
If she were to go to beascout for a new council (currently) it would make a new MID and not use her old one.
As stated, IF a council searches universally for a user, they should be able to find them to use the existing MID, but I think the near default is to make a new MID.
