Good morning,
I was really disappointed to hear it’s not possible to switch profiles/ member IDs in the Scoutbook app. I have many parents with kids in two different councils (I personally have kids in one council and units I work with in another) but there is no way to switch my profile/ member ID. I’m not even sure how it chooses which member ID to use, because mine is set to the member ID I’m not logged into my.scouting with.
Is there anything that can be done about it?
Thanks!
@CarrieHankes - member ID’s are managed in my.scouting.org
Right, but that’s what I’m saying. I’m logged in under one member ID and my scoutbook on desktop reflects that. I’m talking about the app specifically. It reflects the opposite member ID (which is not selected.) According to the webinar yesterday, there is no way to flip back and forth either.
@CarrieHankes - what app ?? And what webinar ?? You can ONLY manage member ID numbers in my.scouting.org and NOT anywhere else
To be clear, the app is only aimed at parents and scouts. So, it wouldn’t help you specifically to be able to switch, since unit management functions are only in the web interface, not the app.
Having different member IDs in different councils is something that has plagued Scouting America’s IT systems for quite a while. Hopefully they eventually switch to a single national ID number for members. However, given some of the odd interaction bugs that appear here from time to time, I suspect the architecture of the underlying systems is poorly structured for handling situations where, for example, a scout or scouter stops being registered in one council (e.g. leaves a unit) but continues to be active in another. The registrar in Council A marks the user IsActive = No, and suddenly the individual disappears from their unit in Council B.
@CarrieHankes - are you talking about this app
That’s fair (in regards to my problem personally as is). This is where national told me to come to suggest changed to it so that’s what I’m trying to do. This is all stuff that should be accessible in the app. If a parent has kids in two councils, they should be able to view both in the app.
@CarrieHankes - are you talking about the scouting app… I have asked this a few times now ??
@CarrieHankes the Member ID management is way outside of Scoutbook, it is a completely different team.
I agree with this (not that my opinion carries a ton of weight).
The problem is that the app itself is specifically intended only for parents and scouts. I’m not sure that National is going to consider expanding the “scope” of the app, although I personally see value to having an “offline” interface to the system, since I’m often in places where net access is dodgy at best.
I haven’t tested it, but what might work is using a different username/login for each council. Then log out / log back in based on which council you want to see.
