I was in the same position with several of our leaders, including myself for 8/31/24 and 10/31/24 expiration dates. I was terrified that I would drop off and not be able to do anything in the system. We also did the āwait and seeā and it ended up working out fine for everyone - So far, my CC position is good (and I can perform everything I need to), but my other positions are still erroring and telling me Iām expired. (Our Exec officer has also completely dropped out of scoutbook and has a warning in my/scouting, but we are moving forward as though no error, and with no problems right now).
Also - BIG note is that there wasnāt a way to renew Merit Badge Counselor status, so council had to do that manually after the fact. (we didnāt know about that - so just something to watch out for!)
Iām not so excited about what happens at the 90 day window, but council is unable to help at the moment so we sit in āwait and seeā mode about all these errors.
Agree with others - Council is the only way - and they are all pretty helpless, unfortunately.
The Institutional Head is supposed to renew/expire with the unitās charter. Contact your Council so they can get this position fixed. They will need to open a ticket with BSA Member Care.

Thanks - They are aware and are apparently unconcerned because they havenāt done anything about it for 1 mth + now. I have spent SO much extra time dealing with all the problems we had with the recharter and our registrations and I just canāt spend any more time chasing the people that are responsible for this. I am just a volunteer and the recharter and member registration process was such a physical and mental time suck that I am exhausted. I need to shift gears back to just helping the troop. I hope they figure out how to resolve the system issue soon!
I do appreciate your advice - I wish it wasnāt this way.

Although no one seems to have a solution, I have appreciated hearing that Iām not alone in the renewal misery.
Since my first post, I tried to remove my least important position, Troop 88 Unit Scouter Reserve, to see if that would fix the āmultiple positionsā bug since that position had a different expiration date from the rest (11/30/2024). I was hoping that would let the renewals for my other Pack and Troop positions to flow through and show the correct the expiration date of 12/31/2025.
Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem BUT not only did the Troop 88 position not get deleted, it was updated correctly to 11/30/2025 after 24 hours! I have no explanation.
Very interesting that this worked for the Troop 88 USR position. Itās still a different expiration date from the other positions, but at least itās in 2025.
One possible workaround suggested by our council recharter team (NCAC) is to wait until the expiration date passes and then reapply for all those multiple positions using my.scouting. But that would involve thousands of online multiple applications and approvals for our district alone. As the VP of Membership, Iām not excited about that workaround!
Thank you for sharing your findings. Iām with Megan: Iāve spent so much time assisting unit leaders with this issue that Iām ready to turn my attention back to my own unit while National works on their solution. I just hope these varying expiration dates donāt hinder unit renewal in the meantime.
