What are the Scoutbook Plus functionalities currently available to Den Leaders?

I am currently developing a guide to send to my pack’s Den Leaders, basing a lot of it on the Introduction to Scoutbook Plus for Cub Scout Packs help page. Only problem is, as the Advancement Chair and a Pack Admin, I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more functionality available to me than a normal Den Leader would have. Is there anything that’ll show me what Den Leaders can access?

@etruongcao- The page views are not any different for you or the den leaders. The primary difference is which scouts they can update items for. The den leader should only be able to edit advancement and logs for the scouts in their respective dens.

Thanks, what about things like “needs approving”, advancement reports, and purchase orders? Is that a functionality available to den leaders, and what are the pitfalls they would need to be cognizant of (I.e. if someone already has an open purchase order, are they able to start their own?)

I’d also be interested to know if they are able to access any of the reports that are in the “Reports” tab, and whether or not they are able to see and generate there own custom reports in the report builder.

I’ve created a bunch of my own custom reports and want to allow den leaders to see them. I’ve toggled the “Shared” to on, but they still can’t see them, so I was wondering that “Shared” actually means.

@etruongcao- the PO for den leaders was never a thing as that is a unit operation. They should be able to do reporting on their scouts. Shared reports would be available to leaders but they have to click on the shared button.

Make sure that the reports only include scouts to whom the den leader has the relevant permissions. I don’t recall whether shared reports that require broader permissions/connections silently drop the scouts who aren’t connected to the scouter or simply fail altogether.

Thanks, so under the “Advancement” tabs, which of these functionalities is available to the den leaders:

Really, I wish that, absent a den leader specific guide on the help site, I could enter a “den leader mode” so I can understand what the den leaders can and can’t see.

My pack’s Cubmasters have directed that all advancement is to be fully den driven, so I need to understand what the boundaries are on what the den leaders can and can’t do, so that I can guide the den leaders accordingly as well as push back on the Cubmasters on functions that can only be done at the pack level.

@etruongcao- I actually do not know as our pack folded so I would not have a direct knowledge of what den leaders can and can not do save for the PO work as they never had that.

I would suggest sitting down with one of your pack’s DLs in person or over a remote session (Zoom, teams, etc) and looking at how their interface differs from yours. In the absence of a canned support guide (which I suspect is coming, but is lagging behind active bug fixes and feature implementation priority-wise), that’s probably the easiest way to find out. I would make sure that they force a refresh of SB+ in their browser and clear cache and/or clear all data associated with scouting.org sites prior to y’all starting the discussion. That way, you’re (likely) not getting caught by stale cached versions of pages/data as you go through.
