Backstory:
We have a troop webpage. I have added a calendar to the webpage using the Embed code located in the google calendar. The google calendar was created from the scoutbook export.
The issue:
Parents visiting the troop website cannot see the events on the calendar. There is an error message saying they don’t have permissions to view events. I personally think the issue lies within the google calendar permissions, but I don’t know where that is hosted from the exported scoutbook file.
Does anoyone know where I can change the google calendar permissions? Or has anyone had any success posting a Scoutbook synced calendar on their troop webpage? if so- how did you do it?
thanks!
@SarahTiede - you have to make the google calendar public
yes- Do you know where do I do that? I can’t find the place that the google calendar exported from scoutbook is hosted. When I go under my google calendar I can see where it needs to be done but I don’t have access.
@SarahTiede - is this under the unit google account and calendar
I’m not sure how to find that. The way we create the current info was to go into into scoutbook and followed the instructions to add the SB calendar to our google calendar using the link, but as far as I know that didn’t create an admin calendar. Do you happen to know if Scoutbook creates something? and how to get to it? Thanks!
@SarahTiede - here is what i did.
- Use the troop google account to create the web site.
- Subscribe to the url in the troop google calendar.
- In the google site use the calendar insert to embed that calendar with the subscription.
- In the google calendar settings check off make the calendar public. All of this logged into google with the unit account.
I can provide more detail later as i am not home at the moment
I went under the troops google calendar and I do not have access on that calendar either. I think there is an issue between Scoutbook and Google. I have sent an email to scoutbook help. Hopefully they can look at it, but I am open to other options if you have ideas. I am stumped and have spent hours trying to fix this. I can not figure out where the hosting location is for the google calendar.
@SarahTiede ’ this is not a scoutbook issue as i have been doing this for many years.
@SarahTiede it sounds like you do not have access to the right login at google that is hosting the calendar
I agree- Any ideas how I would find that? I have no clue what account it would be syncing to.
@SarahTiede ’ i will be home shortly and can set up a sceen share
It sounds like it is more setup as an iframe than a google calendar - a google calendar would not have permission info, an iframe would
The website is set up as an embed HTML code if that is what you mean.
that would be great! thank you!
@SarahTiede - you can email sjhjr@comcast.net and I will set up the screen share. One other question… is this a google site ?
I GOT IT! thank you- your comment sparked a realization that I hadn’t tried to embed it as a google calendar app- and when I went at it that way it worked!!! Thank you!
I got it to work!!! I went in through the troop google account and used it to set up a google calendar app and embedded that into the site- It worked! thank you for talking me through it. I would have never figured it out without your ideas.
YAY! the sense of relief is wonderful!
@SarahTiede - there we go. Now this is what I have on our troop calendar setting:
I still can’t find that setting. I can see it but I dont have the ability to change it. There must be a different account connected somewhere. We recently switched our troop email to run through our new website. I am guessing something didnt transfer. But I think I have a good work around.
