Why aren't there references in multiple/transfer adult apps?

  1. A couple of COR’s are complaining that they’ve received adult applications with no references listed. Our council tells us they can’t make it mandatory to list references. The COR has to reach out to each applicant to request the references and it takes more time. So, that’s annoying, but it gets worse.
  2. After contacting the applicants to provide references, we’ve learned that adults don’t have the opportunity to enter any references in transfer or multiple adult apps initiated through my.scouting.org. It’s just not an option. It seems like someone should fix that.

Any idea where to send a suggestion? Is it realistic to think that someone might consider it?

The team who manages and supports the my.scouting platform only takes support and feature request tickets from the council professionals. You’ll have to convince your council staff to agitate for the change to permit (but not require?) supplying references as part of the transfer/multiple application interface.

@AnnMacPhail - i will say though that units can add the committee chair as recommendor on adult apps in my.scouting.org. on item 1 are you stating this about paper applications?

Thank you. It’s helpful just to know that the thing I can suggest is called a “feature request ticket”. Maybe I can make it easier by writing up the problem and suggested solution for a council professional to submit.

Yes, adding the extra step of Committee Chair recommendation would be helpful if the CC knew all of the applicants personally. This is just for the online applications. If an adult submits a regular app through BeAScout.org or using the unit’s direct application link, there is an opportunity to enter contact info for references. But if a registered adult leader submits a multiple or transfer app from their own my.scouting–>My Applications–>Transfer/Multiple, there’s no place to enter references. This seems like an oversight.

@AnnMacPhail - but by the same token would an existing registered adult already be vetted by the primary unit?

Yes, but a new COR takes responsibility for approving each new adult leader. The adult may be changing chartered organizations. It may have been ten years since the initial registration.

@AnnMacPhail - ok… but if i list a reference i dont normally expect a bad commentary and using your 10 years ago registration i would not be qualified or desired.
